I know it isn't mk related but well done to those of you brave enough to attend your screening tests, I am too young for routine mammograms but my job involves cancer treatment. I know screening tests aren't fun and it's scary that cancer may be found, but nearly always the tests come back clear it's just making sure and if there is anything you want it detected early, it can really be the difference between life or death how early on the problem is spotted so please please be brave and go for the screening. Cervical screening is the other one people like to avoid, the cancer treatment will be much more invasive than the smear test so really try your best to just get it over with it only takes a couple of minutes.

Morning all on this wet and windy day (well it is here ):(

Yesterday was lovely so went to the beach with the dog in the morning and then walked him in the woods in the afternoon :D It was lovely but he is a bit tired now :rotfl:
So got up this morning to the nasty wet day and lit the wood burner so its roaring away with him laying in front of it :D So very joyful and warm for him as normally I cant be bothered to light in the mornings :D

Had a phone call yesterday evening would I like to go to a candle party :eek: I thought of you lot and just started to laugh. No thank you - oh why? Because I really have better things to do and I dont need any candles.:D

For gods sake a 'candle party' whats the point of that then ? If I want a candle I will buy one from a shop.

I have joined the not buying it challenge. I am finding it strangely liberating. Just knowing I am not going to buy anything I really dont need. Almost like its taken the pressure off me in some weird way :rotfl:

    Have a joyful day everyone

    Mav x

Debt free and Mortgage free thank you to all for your encouragement and advice

  • Small bits of kondo going on here. Several bags of paper have left, paperwork seems to be an endless task at the moment. I also donated a load of stationery to a teacher friend for her pupils.
Well done on declining the candle party Mavvy. I went to one of these a few years ago and they are very expensive! I struggled to understand why my friend wanted to become even one of their party planners as although they got a small commission most of the rewards seemed to be free items from the catalogue. How many tea light holders do you need! I did buy a candle holder and some tealights to support my friend but I'd like to think that now I wouldn't fall prey to being sucked into the hype. I ended up gifting the item to a pal who loved it so it brought joy to her. The tealights are in the cupboard in the event of the next power cut.
In the end these parties are all a form of pyramid selling with the consultants trying to recruit new sellers so that they can reach new pools of unwitting buyers who never knew how candle/tupperware/random item-deficient their lives were!

Allybee - yes they are all pyramid selling & mostly overpriced 'toot' I think the only decent one was the original Tupperware - the stuff just doesn't seem to die! I've had some of mine in use for over 40 years!
Greenbee - so pleased you've got the all clear from your ultrasound and thank you to Selement for her post. Ladies - make sure you get 'top & tailed' every time you get your appointments.
On the MK front thanks to suggestions our local Women's Refuge have nearly bitten my hand off for Aunties undies. Igamogam you have hit the nail on the head for me. When I dispose of items is no longer like or need they need to go somewhere that sparks Joy for me too even if it does slow the process. The freegle I offered the mirror to after the no show mailed me last night to say thanks - how nice & good to know it will be appreciated. That's what it's all about for me.
Have a lovely day all x
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

I couldn't afford Tupperware the first time round, as I was skint and it was expensive! However, I have bought some of the storage tub type containers since, when I have seen them in good condition in charity shops or car boot sales for 50p or £1. I use them with blackboard labels attached to store dry food items in the larder. Makes for a lovely retro look :) I even have patterned 'fablon' on the shelves, and it is very joyful :D I don't need any more though!

I quite agree about wanting good quality discarded items to go to someone who needs them, or will love them though, even though it does take longer than simply chucking them out. The one thing that jarred for me in the original book was MK's apparently blase attitude to simply throwing things in the trash  Little or no mention of charity shops or recycling :( I do realise that hers is a different culture, and for all I know, their recycling system may well be much more efficient than ours here! (I've not been to Japan).

I had a conversation just last night with my closest friend who had a tiny lump detected about six years ago. Her consultant told her that she didn't know how the technician had spotted such a tiny lump on the mammogram and that she would not have felt it by doing a manual check for probably years. She had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy and has not had any recurrence. I've had skin cancer myself and I can vouch for your statement that it really makes the difference between life and death to catch cancer early. Mine was also detected by a technician, from sample sent to the lab.
  • Good morning! Another 4 bags left the house yesterday to the charity shop so happy with that! And we bought an incinerator so hubby was very happy burning paper and masses of cardboard yesterday and I was very happy spreading the cooled ashes on the muddier bits of my garden!
    Have a great day xx

    Good morning :)

Just re KM-ed all of my clothes - 1 too-large cream leather handbag and a large carrier bag of good condition clothes to CS. 1 pair of knickers to bin. 1 carrier bagful of clothes for ragbag @ CS. All clothing in drawers now folded and filed. Only items not folded MK style are socks and stockings.

My wardrobe has a double row of rails in it. The back row has very summery tops on and about 8 items of clothing which are joy-sparkers but currently a size too small. I have pledged to lose 1 stone by March(!) - hopefully that will see them fitting better to see if they spark joy once on, and not just on the hangers :D

Could you PM me the details please? I still haven't found anywhere to drop off all my travel toiletries (which includes some decent washbags, toothbrushes, shaving kits, earplugs etc) locally.

It is - when I was working on an environmental project about waste disposal several years ago, Japan was one of the places we looked at as an example as there recycling rate was something like 85%. They have really good technology for separating and recycling different materials. And manufacturers are responsible for the cost of disposing of waste from products they made... which means they think more carefully about the way they manufacture them.
