I've got the drill out, cleaned up an old corner shelf that was lurking in the garage, and put it up in my kitchen. Spices have been moved on to it (not ideal, but they're mostly in one place), so more dry goods in jars (lentils, grains etc) are now in the kitchen on the bigger shelves rather than in the utility room cupboards.

One day I'll have a kitchen that actually works... but at the moment I'm just working on seeing whether I can get some surfaces (old tables) clear. They're not great for food prep (too low, too narrow), but some more clear space may well help me to do more proper cooking.
  • :T:T:T Thank you so much everyone who contributed to Last year's Thread and helped keep me motivated (special thanks to GreyQueen:rotfl::: and others who have made me laugh in the process). I am only partly Kondoed, it takes longer than you think!! But my Brain is definitely on the Kondo train and nothing unjoyful is now allowed to ENTER my house. Offspring who have 'left home' have pick up the kondo baton and are begining to kondo their own possessions(hopefully MY home will soon be free of their clutter too!) I have 2 weeks off work(holiday) in January so hope to get lots done... Lots off blockage needing to actually just get out the house as it has already been gone through and just needs moved on.

Selement, thanks for posting about the Genie recycling sacks. I've never heard of these. Will be chatting to DH about getting one. Seems to be a win win situation. They collect the stuff AND you get paid!

Thank you as well Selement, I didn't know about this service and found it sapped my energy to make the 20 mile round trip to the cashforclothes shop to find that they were having an unplanned shut day... Sacks are already ordered and clothes pile will be OUT as soon as they arrive.
So count me in for 2016 folks, onwards and upwards!

For those of you considering buying the new 'must have' kitchen gadget - spiraliser - consider buying some spiralised carrot/ courgette etc and try in your cooking/meals. Or borrow the gadget from someone first. We did and where disappointed - and we really did try every which way. Just a thought :)

I am not sure if it was on this thread that I read a post about someoene reluctant to get rid of their BBC Good Food mags...........me too...........last year;) I had every, that's EVERY copy since it started:eek: I spent a couple of hours going through them and just kept the 'special events' ones - Christmas Easter etc. The rest I gave away on fr**gle. I got myself a subscription offer even though the recipes are available on line, as I like to have a physical magazine I can read, in bed usually ( rock and roll :rotfl:) I do use the online service to save any recipes rather than having them cut out of the mag and taking up space in a folder/file. I have just kondoed last years mags on fr**gle again. Works for me :)

Greenbee - could you use some of those 'leg extenders' that you can buy to raise the height of beds for one of your tables? It must kill your back working on a low surface.
Just put the Christmas decs back up in the loft but I also got DH to pass down two small tables, 3 large pictures. 2 mirrors and some small bits of kibble. Someone on Freecycle already wants one of the mirrors the rest will be going to the Hospice shop & the kibble to the CS! Every little helps ;)

    :) Afternoon all.

After nearly an hour's drive, got back to my flat and it took several trips to offload the car into the flat. Mostly Stuff from the parental home destined for the chazzer.

My cunning plan was to make one trip this aft with a couple of bags and then several trips in the next 1-2 weeks until it was all gone.

 Then I saw how much Stuff there was in my tiny space and realised that this would drive me nuts (and I'd probably break my neck falling over it). So, within 5 mins of Dad driving off, I was heading the half-mile up the road to the chazzer with the two biggest, most awkward things to hand. Came back and then loaded the wally-trolley, my backpack and three other bags with more Stuff and headed out with that.

I suppose it would be a better story if I could tell you that it was now all cleared, but it wouldn't be true - only about 80% is gone. Of the rest, some is material for craft work, some bits will go to pals in the next few days and some belongs on the allotment. And I will still need a dump truck to access the bedroom.........:rotfl:

Ooof, am tired but pleased with the result. Nothing like a bit of un-shopping to gladden the heart. All I brought back was milk, bread and veg.

Wow - so many newbies/lots of pages to catch up.

Well - I thought I was reasonably KM-ed on the paperwork/kitchen drawers and just had one more kitchen cupboard to sort, until on clearing it out (various komono). But we do keep some paperwork there, including tickets to future events. I found I couldn't find the paperwork for a expensive event in Feb.

So, a major panic followed, DH and myself blaming each other, then sorting through the whole house's paperwork, (and I thought I had KM-ed lots of categories) trying to find these tickets. Obviously been put in a very safe place!

What I found out - Paperwork is everywhere.

Positives - Glad we found out NOW, far more areas were KM-ed than expected, and you can get copies of most tickets/paperwork.

Also another kitchen cupboard cleared and just ONE place to put tickets/paperwork.

    Phew! Another lesson learned.

Just nipping in. Silvasava, great idea for greenbee about raising table height, will nick that for my own project! :cheesy:

Packing all done, fits easily thanks to some MK magic folding and a good MK think about how [STRIKE]much[/STRIKE] little to take :D Of course all helped by clothes etc being in alloted place ready for gathering up. Well, except for my snorkel.
Can't remember where in my little not-always-logical world I put it when i kondo'd the back bedroom. DH is off tomorrow so he'll be playing hunt the snorkel :rotfl:

    Great result GQ :T

Igamogam, I like how you deal with the joyous mags without long term accumulation, sounds like another good idea to me.

right, off to make a list, so much to do this next week that I simply cannot keep trying to drag the running order to the front of my mind, rather have a neat list, not have to remember, and I get to tick things off when they are done! Win, win. :D

Good idea - I'll look into it. Mind you, I don't actually tend to work on the low surfaces. Just keep stuff on them. It's not a bad height for using the juicer, and otherwise I just make tea or coffee on it. I have one small sensible height surface, and tend to do all my work on that. Which is why I don't cook much...

GQ could you not have asked your Dad to stop at the chazzer before you got to your flat ?
