Mummy M - maybe your DH could have a 'man cave' ;) I do sympathise over the books though. My DH is an avid reader and will not get rid of any. He tends to read series and will reread many times! I read a book & then pass it on - maybe I need to give him a man cave lol!

Well, you may laugh, but my OH has a man cave (small third bedroom), where he can keep all the junk he likes, and it saves loads of arguments! He also has a shed in the garden. If you have the space, I would highly recommend it, as, since I don't go in there, I don't have to look at his 'collections'!

Kondoed toy room (as GCs call my small spare bedroom!) two bags to go to CS, moved round and found space to put a folding bed in utility room so there is more play space and less clutter. All boxes sorted and cleaned out (random biscuits, raisins, sweet papers, paper etc). Just need to make up bunk beds in there.

Space found in utility by taking wine fridge to tip. It never worked properly and nor did its replacement which is in kitchen. Will try kitchen one again but if not successful think we will replace.

Christmas tree gone to tip. We have somehow freed up 6 decent storage boxes so will put these in loft until needed.

Took the last of the Xmas Dec's down this morning, tree and living room wreath. everywhere is nice and tidy now :j l usually feel it looks too bare after Xmas but not this year !
My problem is I love T lights and candles lit at night time but if the glass holders are out in the day time I feel it looks too cluttered. If I put them in a cupboard I tend not to bother getting them out ! Complete laziness! :rotfl:
Well done GQ and Mavvy with parental homes !

We are lucky enough to have a cabin in garden with electric and Internet. I used it as a study when doing masters degree as OH worked from home in small indoor study. Both retired and have swopped over and he has man cave in garden. I am the book hoarder but they are going slowly.

Greenbee - excellent suggestions but............DH does like his recliner in the sitting room and has taken over my lovely bookcase! I'm the one with a retreat (small front bedroom) with my 'pooter, bookshelves with just a few books, sewing machine etc. My house definitely doesn't look like any interiors magazine! He's got all his DVD's stored in the cupboard underneath the bookcase so I might suggest he culls them to store some of his books..............;)

Reading this has just given me a brainwave..........re tea lights, candles etc.

I have freed up a box. I'll put them all in there during the day and in a cupboard in the lounge, together with matches. Then at night I can just pull out the box.

    Brilliant thanks for that one.

Going to take the tree down and decorations down today.

Selement, thanks for posting about the Genie recycling sacks. I've never heard of these. Will be chatting to DH about getting one. Seems to be a win win situation. They collect the stuff AND you get paid!

Aliwali - would something like this work for you?

Theres a few cash for clothes type sites to choose from if any other suit :) the only problem is it means the clothes don't leave the house so quickly!

I think they were closed between xmas and new year and it was between then I requested my pack so haven't got it yet... but yeah can't argue with them giving sack for free, collecting for free and getting a bit of money back :) have to be careful though there's a long list of things they don't accept!

I'm sorting through my bag of clothes when it arrives so it'll be a straight into genie sack or bin decision process.

Thank you for the suggestion re DH and his books etc. I love the idea of a man cave! We aren't really lacking in space and have a much bigger house than we used to and in the longer term, if we don't move, we could easily turn the kids playroom into a library/den for DH.
I think the root of the problem isn't really that I mind him having books but more that I only see items as something to keep if they serve a purpose or if I really love them. Whereas DH would keep lots 'just in case' or books that he has read and will, by his own admission, never read a second time.

On reflection, a house with tons of storage would suit us as I wouldn't have to see lots of stuff if it were behind closed doors
