KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I've just reclaimed a second room as the floor is now dry. I really need to think hard about furniture for this one, as it is mostly used by my brother's kids and hasn't really been dealt with properly. They've got a rather rickety pair of 2'6 beds made out of 2x2 and cardboard as far as I can tell. And a rocking horse (which takes up a LOT of room) and various boxes of toys and books.
I'm thinking of getting the builder to make a built-in bed in a space that only takes the folding guest bed. He can put drawers underneath, and maybe do something creative (I quite like the idea of this but not at that price...).
There is no room for bedside tables, so I'm thinking clip lights on headboards will do. Storage under the other bed will be for the current folding bed as there are often several children here. For toy and book storage I thought maybe some kind of cube storage on the wall which could hold books, toys or clothes as necessary. Ik*a do some that can be fixed on the all rather than floor standing, so no issues with skirtings getting in the way (and stuff falling down the back of the shelves as a result!)
New wardrobe is arriving this afternoon... I'm really excitedI think I'll get it delivered to the garage so I can clean and decontaminate it before it comes into the house. And the builders can bring it upstairs on Monday morning (once I've dumped the contents of my bedroom into the kids' room ...)

And another room comes back into use, yayyy!
Regarding clip-onto-the-headboard type lights, there is a better solution which my parents have above all the beds in their home which is a pair of small swivelling spotlight mounted on a bar. These are metal, they've had theirs over 20 years but they were pretty cheap and, at that time, came in white, red and black choices.
These are very efficient because they can't detach and the only muss is the cable running down to the socket they're plugged into. Maybe and option to consider?
You can also set foam bed-chairs which easily flip out to accomodate occasional guests but otherwise provide low-level sprawly seating which is very child-friendly. I've slept on one as an adult and it was fine.Still haven't kondo'd the wall unit as I got distracted by a Robert Crais novel which is part of the to-be-read-and-donated books. Reading that is almost decluttering, isn't it?:o

I have experienced my first Kondo regret this morning, I have been
considering buying a spiralizer to use to make more colourful = nutritious clear soups and salads, reviews and opinions are so mixed that I decided to see what my food processor blade and mandolin would produce, only to find that I must have Kondoed it a few months ago:(
This is one of the reasons that my MC journey is a little slow and considered as I have a reputation for throw and regret:o
Some people have suggested using a box grater on it's side to obtain longer shreds, not keen on this as I have dexterity problems, but a solution will be found even if it proves not to be very:money::D
I use a vegetable peeler for courgette and carrot, the strips are a little thicker but perfectly acceptable, cabbage I shred and leeks are easy.
The seed part of the courgette left over I grate and out in my overnight "zoats" (zucchini oats)
Taking a short break from clearing rubble holly and ivy (yes I am singing the holly and the ivy - now you will be too. You're welcome :rotfl:) for a cuppa. Having some blood sugar issues / lightheaded ness this morning. Happens sometimes - I have very low blood pressure and sometimes it really affects my dizziness.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
VJsMum, I have lowish blood pressure and have to be careful when getting out of bed or have been sitting a while.
I was once in A & E following a medical misadventure and the nurse took my BP sitting with my legs up and it was fine, then she wanted a second reading, standing.
I obliged, didn't feel the slightest bit dizzy, but she was watching the readings and obviously saw something shocking because she almost yelled SIT DOWN RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think the poor woman believed I was about to faint and had the image of a strapping woman crashing down like a giant redwood, carrying all before her, inc the nurse.
Dunno how far the reading fell but I've never seen a nurse so rattled. Mind you, an anaethetist was once discombulated to put a heartbeat monitor on my finger just before putting me under a GA and found my resting heart rate was 40 per minute. Told her not to panic, it's normally somewhere between 40 and 50.:rotfl:

Do you get that thing where your vision goes all cloudy and you have to hold on to something till it clears?
I thought everyone got that, but apparently not....
I think last time it was 90/48 but it has been lowerI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
VJsMum, I was more diligent than usual when I typed Public, esp given the rest of the sentence
Right, dropped off small amount of stuff at CS and resisted buying. Got a few things on offer that we are running low on and picked up the rest of the stuff for tomorrow's social gathering (note to VJsMum, all very respectable I'll have you know).
About to sort through organised cupboards to gather suitable serving dishes / platters etc* so it isn't a mad scramble tomorrow morning. I do love the prep almost as much as I love the convivial company to come. * Hope I haven't over - kondo'd like MaddieMay!
GQ, darn right, reading is an improtant prelude to kondo-ing and must be encouraged, just don't get up too quickly
Have a lovely day Everyone,
MI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Righty, as it's a pertiddling all day sort of day, and I'd found the project when kondo-ing the wall unit, I took something which I'd been procrastinting about to the copy bureau for binding.
Only been procrastinating about that one for 26 months, lol, and after going to the copy shop, I remembered why I avoid them. Queuded circa 10 mins waiting to be seen, then was asked to come back in 30 mins whereupon job would be done. Kicked my heels around town thinking how much I detest shopping and shopping streets, never more than on a Saturday. Went back and still not ready, so queued and then had to wait another 10 mins.
I've got another one of these jobs still to do, once I've printed off the pooter but it may well be another 22 months before I can face going back again.:rotfl:
Have lined up all the to-be-reads and, excluding the one started today, there is a mere 26 of them. I may be gone for some time...........Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Does it count that I Kondoed three books off my Kindle which have been there for two years? Also two films I'd downloaded as I decided I probably wouldn't watch them on such a small screen anyway!
Apart from that I've emptied and refilled the shredder after going through a stack of old mail. Feeling so much better after that ...Looking ahead0 -
Waiting patiently for the new wardrobe to be delivered....
Kids want red shelves in their room apparently. Can't see any reason why not.0 -
So the holiday has begun. I just don't know where to start. Think i will do the general chores over the weekend, I've a few appointments on Monday and no girls on Tues so might wait till then to go for it big style.
Having an issue with a few jewellery stands that i use for the Christmas Fair stalls i do as they are a weird shape to find a home for but am hopeful something will come to mind soon.
friend came round and was impressed with how i use the built in bottle storage by oven to house mini baskets with bits in. She asked if she could nick the idea!Don’t put it down - put it away!
