Well I thought I'd dip into a few random pages of this thread to get a feel for the place and where should I alight but GreyQueen's dead-bird-in-the-loft saga :eek::eek: Particularly eek as [STRIKE]I think[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]I'm sure[/STRIKE] I know there are birdies scrabbling about in my loft at the moment and I daren't go up to investigate...Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0

Greenbee we cross-posted. Thanks so much for all the working-from-home tips! I was rather looking forward to working in my PJs all day
TBH it's a temporary thing lasting hopefully no more than about six months. All I'll be doing at home is writing/proof reading and everything I need will be online. I do plan to convert Dad's room into some sort of all-in-one guest room/sewing room/home office but I doubt that'll be finished within this six month window.
Brilliant advice about leaving the house on a morning though I'll definitely do that (I might even go for a run!!)Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -

I've been scrabbling around in that particular loft for 40-odd years, not to mention other people's lofts, and that was a first and (hopefully!) a one-off.
And welcome to the thread, btw, and welcome to anyone else I've forgotten.
Been to the allotment this morning for a couple of hours and tidied the shed slightly among other things. Have reached a decision about an item in there which is rather unwieldy. It can be partially-cannibalised and I think that a part of it may well go on freegle, but another part will be heading towards the tip. Being car-less, the logistics will be a burger, but I can work around that with a bit of organisation.Umm, with a lot of organisation. And a wheelbarrow.
Have spent the last few hours pootling around at home, cooking a few things and reading, online and offline. Have got windows open to the fresh air and have just done a washload. Sadly, have no place outdoors to dry laundry, you folks with gardens/ patios, be they ever so 'umble, don't know how lucky you are.
Wall unit is looking a lot better than before, several spaces visible. I have started another book (25 left to go!) and think Mum might like this one as well, so I'll ask her about it when I finish. She has a regular habit of reading then chazzering them, so it's not really cluttering her place.
May well be popping out a pal's tonight but suspect they may be too tired once back from hospital visiting, so shan't be surprised if they cancel at short notice. It's about 3 streets away so no particular problem to stroll or not-stroll over there.
Keep up the good works, lovely peeps.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Today I have Kondo'd a large amount of weeds from the garden. I only set out to plant some onion sets in a raised bed, but you know how it is... Spotted some weeds, pulled them out, the next thing I'm in the back of the borders with a trowel and spade.
Our garden is on heavy clay, there is so little joy in gardening in it most of the time. Today the soil is wet and sticking to the tools and shoes, but at least I was able to get in and dig some of the real deep rooted perennial weeds out. Give it a few days of sunshine and the ground bakes like a brick and you can't get a tool in the ground. I dug out a plant that had died and all the weeds that had crept in below it. OH Kondo'd some rattles from our new fence by making some wedges to knock in between the panels and the posts.
Christmas lights have finally been moved to the loft!
Edit, whilst in the garden, I enjoyed the wind chimes I hung up a couple of weeks ago. We bought them about 7 years ago with the intention of hanging them up somewhere in the house, they got shoved in a cabinet in the sun room. Found them when clearing the sunroom a couple of weeks back, decided if we haven't hung them up inside in 7 years, the only place they could go was in the garden. They are now out there jingling in the wind as they were made to do.Make £2025 in 2025

Argh, have had to go to the loft myself as OH missed a set of lights. I fished out a travel bag whilst I was up there I'd spotted the last time I visited which we no longer use and will be fine for somebody else I'm sure. Got back down, stowed the steps, then noticed that the stack of travel guides & maps I'd also asked OH to stow, he'd picked up all but one.....
There's ALWAYS something isn't there? I went to the CS shop on Friday and forgot the book I'd just finished, and a lampshade.Make £2025 in 2025

Yeah, there's always something left behind, particularly when heading up into the loft.
I've stuck a small random item on freegle this afternoon and got a taker. It came from the parental home at Easter and could have gone with some similar items to the chazzer a couple of weeks back but got forgotten, so I thought I'd freegle it (not worth much to the chazzer).
Should leave tomorrow or so.
Am feeling a bit pleased with myself as I have washed up EVERYTHING and cleared the decks and even bleached out my dishcloth and dishmop. Get me, Mrs Domesticated, and have decided what to have for breakfast tomorrow and have got something out of the freezer to defrost for tomorrow's supper.Umm. Does this mean I am a proper grown-up now? Or just someone trying to get the drop on the work-week/ terminally boring?

Evening all. Have been AWOL for a few weeks. Hope that everyone has been OK and well. Will catch up on the posts written since the bank hol weekend during the week.
Life in RL been hectic and a bit crazy, especially with OHs health.
So since I last posted, kondoed 'the night manager' from recordings - really loved that show!
Sent all the make-up that I don't wear to the women's refuge charity - that was satisfying. Just need to sort out the rest of my makeup and work out what to do with them.
On a more positive note, emptied out the last vacupac of clothes that I had into my cupboard. Definitely, had more clothes that I need, am sure that more clothes will be going to the charity shop sooner or later.
The next bag to charity is ready now, bag number 6.
Kitchen still needs to be sorted, will get there but RL is too hectic at the mo.
Posted some ACCA books onto Gumtree and an accountancy website. Hopefully something will come out of it.
Hope that everyone has a good rest of the evening and a good coming week.

I have just rootled through many years worth of receipts, some going back nearly 10 years :eek: Why, why was I keeping them? The blasted things have moved with me 3 times
I did however, find a tenner :j so the teas are on me!
I kept everything with my name and address or similar on it to one side for a ceremonial burning in the fire pit later this week but everything else went in the recycling bin.
The two boxes which were stuffed full of this ridiculous stuff have now been repurposed to hold my ribbons and tags nicely and not crushed in a box together. They have now been put in the cupboard beside the door - on the back of which my wrapping paper storage bags hang so it is all close together.
A nice big gap has opened in the shelf but this will be filled shortly with books etc which have been boxed up since they were packed up for the extension build. The extension build finished over a year agoI did go through the books when they were packed with lots going CS-wards but this will be an opportunity to go through them again.
Room of Doom is very doom-like at the moment as I have an NCT nearly new sale next week and everything is coming out of the loft and RoD this week to be taken there on Saturday with hopefully little returning and a plump payment coming soon after. I'm the treasurer so I have an inside knowledge of how my stuff is selling on sale day. I price it sell so hopefully it will go, go go!!!Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -
Welcome Tete
condolences for your loss, be gentle with yourself. All progress is a step in the right direction. The support on here and in the hoarding threads is fantastic and I've found them very helpful
I feel long I've stalled atm, this is definitely affected by my current mood so I'll try to remind myself of all the improvements. Kondo when there is no joy is difficult to maintain. Friends have suggested buying myself a treat - pretty sure that would bring in complicated anti-woo feelings and then guilt.
Oh, I realised the other day I'm on the start of bottle no. 3 of washing up liquid in 18 months, and have used less than 2 bottles of shampoo in 8 months. Initially I worried me and my flat were just manky, then realised that actually it's respectably clean and is just so much easier with fewer belongings and requires much less effort. This is quite motivating:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
:hello:Welcome Tete - you'll find us an interesting bunch! I have taken loads of useful fips from what other folk are doing, and we have a laugh as we do it. I live in a very small house with approx 25 years of Stuff in it and DH hates getting rid of things. KM really works but I am only part way through, having lots to do and taking categories very slowly. I would seriously suggest doing the knicker drawer for a quick win that WILL stay neat and tidy as you progress. It is amazing how much satisfaction comes from peeping at the oganised drawers, cupboards, shelves and so on.
GQ, I sometimes do something that makes me feel grown up and astonish myselfI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0
