KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

She asked me if I could make her a throw using some of her old slogan Tshirts she no longer wears but can't let go. She said they were too old and tatty for the CS which was a fair comment. She's bought two huge black bags round, so I've cut 96 13 inch squares and sewn them together it is huge!!! The little offcuts have gone in the rag bag for recycling the larger pieces are going to dd1s work for use as cleaning rags so nothing is wasted and now the throw will be used and bring joy rather than being two black bags of old clothes stuffed in her wardrobe. I'm thinking I'll ask mil for a pack of her unopened flannellette flat sheets she's got but will never use. They were bought for the double bed which was got rid of over 30 years ago! Then I can use them as backing to save buying something else and at least then the sheets will get used.
I know it's not the true spirt of kondoing but it's as near as dd would have got with them.
Well done :T can I ask how you stop the material running when you stitch it? My DD had a thing for collecting t shirts from west end shows we've been to, but she has now lost three dress sizes in weight and can't wear them and can't throw them, she would love this.
Unfortunately my plan for today was to clean and tidy the 'public areas' prior to entertaining on Sunday
:j
Anyone else read that as pubic? No? Just me? :rotfl:
Skip's gone :T. And I did thank the sheds as they went off down the road
This weekend we are doing some more work in the shed area, tidying it and topsoiling. We have to decide what to ultimately do with it, but for now will dig it over. A friend said "that's a fantastic space, you could put a summer house in there". NO NO NO  It would just become another shed, full of carp. OH has agreed we can have the little storage box thingy, that will do.
It is going to rain later so I am also going to do some tidying in our office, which is supposed to be my workspace but is so cold and horrid I don't like being in there, so I need to suss out why the radiator doesn't work and do more kondoing in there.
Have a good day allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Nah, I read it as public........ yer must have a mucky mind, lol.
Today is tipping it down but I wanted to spend a couple of hours on the allotment. Weather forecast says rain all day but they have been known to be wrong, so I will hurtle out later if it clears.
Just scrubbed the kitchen floor and will shortly head up the road for an airing (and a wetting) to get some veggies and have a quick mooch in some chazzers. Have a few, very specific things on my Wants List, but will leave anything which isn't quite right.
Agree about taking your time to decide what to do with your newly de-shedded area of garden and that summerhouses will just default into sheds regardless of original intentions. It's exciting to have new space to play with but there's no need to rush at the decision.
When I come back, I have designs on kondo-ing my wall unit, the biggest area of storage space I own. It isn't too bad but there are some things which could come off there permanantly and the whole thing could benefit from a good dusting.
Onwards and outwards, my lovelies.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Some great results and wise choices all round! Mrs MP, you must be so patient to cut all those t's, and now you have to sew and back them....wow.. That's a lovely thing to do for your DD (and a good use for the 30 y.o. new sheet!
).
My project plan was hijacked by the MK magic this morning. I started to put away a few bits and found myself irresistibly drawn to 2 smallish boxes of stationery / info leaflets. ... Then.....because I had the MK urge (it will come, procrastinator, honestly), I re-did shoes and boots. It helped that I could get rid of a pair of work shoes (hee, hee). I, get this, cleaned them all. Realised that I have 2 pairs of ankle boots that I haven't worn for ages but that I love, so pulled them to the front. ... also moved the coat he has bagged up for CS into the aforementioned CS bag so I can take it in tomorrow. The moving round prompted me to do an emergency vac of the newly revealed space.....:embarasse so I vacced all of upstairs.

oh, and then I cleaned the oven :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Panic set in when DH txt to say he was on way home and I hadn't thought about dinner (well I had thought about an Indian takeaway). So, we had bacon butties for tea! We know how to live:D

Sent dd a photo of the squares out together and she's really pleased with it so far.
Hope everyone has a good weekend I've got a busy one so not sure how much I'll be about.
I've kondoed a broken piece of drain, formerly used by the waste from the kitchen sink, but I don't think that quite counts. I *have* acquired the details of a wonderful local plumber :j
Today's very wet and soggy, I'll do some more bagging of fallen cherry laurel leaves if the rain lets up - otherwise, my kondo-ing will be of the inbox on my desk, which has become a storage boxIts not massive, but I only ever deal with the overflow, there are things that have been in there a looong time.

VJsmum I used stretch stitch on my machine to sew them together and left 1/2 inch seams which I opened, I was going to zigzag them but it made it look a bit bulky from the front. To back it I'm going to sew two pieces of sheeting together leaving a gap in the middle of the seam to turn it through. Then I'll put the two pieces facing each other and sew all the way round so all the rough bits will be trapped inside when I turn it back through through the hole. Then I'll sew the hole up do a 1/2 inch edging seam all the way round and probably hand sew a few tacking stitches where the squares meet so that it holds flat. Does that make any sense?

Morning all.
Weather looks good today, I'm just sorting out all the various things I've promised to family members I'll see today so I can get it all bagged and away.SPC~12 ot 124

Lovely day yesterday so after cleaning ,pegged out washing ,then got stuck into the weeding.
A couple of years ago we replaced the kitchen cupboard doors, and worktop but we kept the sink just replaced the tap. It has 1 and 1/2 bowls and I like it I clean it with bleach and haven't noticed it looks worn!
Sunny morning here but start work at 12 so need to have lunch before I go !😨
Have a good weekend all.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
VJ, desks always seems to fill back up quickly. Hopefully the kondo woo works there too
Re washing up bowls. I have to confess I'm a little confused as the issues they are causing people. I've always used one and have never noticed scratches on the sink? If things need to soak, then you can tip them on their side to get rid of the cold greasy water so no need to get your hands in it. Right enough, I don't usually put dishes in to soak as they get stacked to one side of the counter next to the sink:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
A little while I ago I asked you lovely lot about receipts ... yesterday as I lurked in the utility room waiting for the washing machine to finish and hiding from my children I picked up my receipt dumping box and went through it.
From several months worth I kept four. Four!!!
My accountancy background makes me twitchy for chucking them all out but I felt so light when they were in the recycling boxI have many, many, many years worth to go though, who knows I may find the odd tenner (wouldn't that be nice!) but they will all go out in the next few weeks.
Bank statements older than 7 yrs will be torn up and put aside for the fire pit.

I have experienced my first Kondo regret this morning, I have been
considering buying a spiralizer to use to make more colourful = nutritious clear soups and salads, reviews and opinions are so mixed that I decided to see what my food processor blade and mandolin would produce, only to find that I must have Kondoed it a few months ago:(
This is one of the reasons that my MC journey is a little slow and considered as I have a reputation for throw and regret:o
Some people have suggested using a box grater on it's side to obtain longer shreds, not keen on this as I have dexterity problems, but a solution will be found even if it proves not to be very:money::DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -

That throw sounds fab Mrs MP - wish I had the patience!!

I am looking forward to it...... but realistically 5 - 8 years away before early semi retirement depending on finances:oBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Maddiemay the processor and mandolin give acceptable yet very different results than the spiralizer - you can pick up the small "giant pencil sharpener" type spiralizer for £5 and it will take up a lot less space!Jan 20 - NST challenge
