KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

So I kondoed my ugly pestle & mortar last week and just dropped the pestle of the marble one I kept and it just snapped in two!
I don't know what the tiles on my kitchen (and bathroom) floors are made from but I think they would survive the apocalypse! They break everything you drop onto them and don't even have mark on them!!“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Well my day started with a trip to the recycling centre and a load of stuff identified in the last two weeks has gone. Got home and made soup for lunch then onto masking up the tongue and groove bath panel which has now received two coats of emulsion. Not sure if it may need a third and perhaps a coat of clear varnish, but it's a vast improvement in my eyes. Got the other tiny paint jobs done from where we'd moved pictures and filled holes and put a second layer of filler in the holes where the radiator has been changed.
Did a big pile of ironing, managed to get it all done. Something has changed since I started Kondoing. I almost always complete all the ironing in one go, previously I'd leave a bit for next time. I hate ironing bloke's trousers and there'd always be a pair left at the bottom of the basket for OH to do. Now I just get on with them as I want to see the basket clear.
The house is becoming cleaner also. I'm cleaning the bathroom more often and the kitchen is becoming regularly blitzed, particularly as I have a sample 'cif' squirty bottle that I don't much like so want to use it up to get rid of it.
Some of these changes are due to my OH's work pattern changing - he's away in the week so I try and make sure I stop working at 4.30pm (I'm often at my desk at 7.30am) and get a bit of housework done. Previously when he was coming home, I'd dither at my desk until it was time to start cooking dinner.
I'm becoming a tidier person (she says, sitting at her desk covered in kipple). Others may not see it yet, but it's happening.Make £2025 in 2025

Seriously impressed by the progress on here. And well done GQ for planting seeds with your mother and getting more decisions made... I hope you'll be reporting back shortly to confirm that your dad has made a successful trip to dispose of the carload of stuff you've left him with! And hopefully your mother will manage to deal with a few more things before your return (and not just because she's scared of what might happen if she doesn't!).
My mother is passing clothes on to me. I find it easiest to accept them and then deal with any disposals at a later date (I do check first that she doesn't want them back, although it may depend on the timescales). I'm also hoping that when I've finished the first floor of my house, I'll be able to move the remaining bits and pieces of mine from my parents' house as they'll have somewhere to go. Unbelievably it looks like upstairs might be done by June, so I really do need to start sorting out either making blinds or getting them made. This will remove a vast amount of fabric from various places around the house...0 -
11.30 pm and I made a start on my bedding. All done now and neatly folded. I also did my food cupboards today. My house is feeling more joyful.Slimming World - SW 156 - CW 152.5 GW 133 - 19.5 lbs to go

Ooof, back at home, completely cream-crackered (rowdy neighbours thumping around in the stairwell at midnight) and Stuff every which way.
Gotta go to w*rk and then on an errand and, if I feel up to it, will start getting the Stuff (mainly clothes, some misc) down to the chazzer.
Just now, have been idly slicing up old envelopes for my scratch notes at work, with a letter opener whilst pootling on the pooter and drinking tea.
A couple of items of clothing from Mum are intended for my use - long-sleeved teeshirts. I get a lot of use from this category of garment so am expecting them to be valuable additions to the wardrobe. I may hiff something less useful out in return.
Of the other things which are going, many of them are theoretically wearable (as in they'd fit and wouldn't look inappropriate) but they're not something I'd choose to wear unless there were no choices, IYSWIM. One is a lovely cream cotton sweater which I can see being swooped on gleefully by some lady after summery clothes. Hey, it might even go on holiday and visit Forn Parts. It could appear in a FB pic and actually be used rather than living in a drawer all sad and lonely.....:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Okay this is harder than I first thought, I'm having a hard time with my undies draw.. I keep thinking of reasons (excuses) of why I should keep said item... I'm taking a breather and going to be ruthless, I think I may have to cut them up...
I am doing mine by this method
Every time I wash a pair I put them in a separate drawer,
I take a fresh pair out of the regular drawer,
I'v nearly got to the bottom of the pile now and a few pairs have been put in the bin that I didn't like
I think I just wore the same few pairs all the time , so having a good sort out this way0 -
Morning all
Hope everyone had a good Easter
Feel better and lighter after the good Friday CS run, yesterday dd2 finally took the pushchair cosy and canopy we bought her before DGS was born he's now almost one! They prefer using harness type carriers but partners mum struggles so they have conceded that it will be useful to have even if it's only for us grandparents to use. Also kondoed a load of paper plates and plastic cups to use at DGS upcoming celebration. Not too much chocolate came in but lots of food got eaten as we had family round over a couple of days.
Started a paperback over the weekend but it made for very uncomfortable reading - child abuse by catholic priests in the 50s is not my idea of lit reading so it gone in the CS bag and I've found a chic lit book I started last year to continue with.
Don't normally enjoy shopping but me and my DDs are going to watch dd3 try wedding dresses on today then I can take them out for a cafe lunch so really looking forward to it.
Have a joyful day all I know I will.SPC~12 ot 124

GQ, thanks for all the updates, really enjoyed them, same to greenbee and MMF007. I don't know how old you all are but whatever, your energy levels are fantastic, I run out of energy just doing my own kondoing. Well done.
GQ, does your Mum notice the difference yet, I find kondoing so uplifting and hope your parents feel the same?0 -
