I didn't think it was appropriate as this is a DFW forum ... its almost an insult to those of us who are working through our debt problems for someone to rock up and say ... why aren't you just going bankrupt?
I think you've taken this too personally - its not reflection on you.
It would be like me going onto the BR forum and suggesting you're all doing the wrong thing and should get involved with debt management, etc - it would be an insult to you.
We each make our own choices and I don't believe I need someone else to tell me whats the best thing to do with my finances.0 -

I don't know who you're referring to - but my guess is that none of the 'DFW trolls' have posted on this thread .... hence why some of us have become defensive.

I don't think Debtmonkey's original post was taken in the spirit (I believe) it was meant.
DM has obviously been experiencing considerable stress and suffering due to debt and has been fortunate enough to find a solution that's worked for him/her; is it wrong that he/she should want to spread the word? I don't think so.
The trouble is insolvency is a highly individual and emotive subject. What works for one person won't necessarily work for another. Once a person has found a solution that works for them it is understandable that they should want to defend it - it's their lifeline after all. It's also understandable that they should wonder why more people haven't done what they have and want to share their experience.
For the most part this thread has been informative and useful in explaining the different reasons people have for choosing different solutions. Let's keep it that way.Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW Nerd #4910 -

I totally agree

I don't see anybody judging anyone who has chosen the bankruptcy route,I like to think I am supported with my choice of a DMP,but I also would like to think, that one day if my circumstances change,I would also be supported through BR on the BR board,I have to say though,it does feel a bit of an us and them situation and I would be quite scared to post on the BR board, despite understanding a fair bit about bankruptcy (parents went BR a few years ago) there have been times when I feel I could add some input onto a thread on the BR board, but because I am not,or considering BR myself,I am tossed aside as if my opinions don't matter. When I post on other boards,my opinions are welcomed

LIH I hope your opinion has not been tossed aside on the BR board. I for one appreciate any help given. We are a little defensive over there at times because of trolls who come over from DFW and stir it. My husband left the board because of what some trolls did to him. It exacperated his illness it was so bad.
I applaud you for finding ways of repaying your debt and hope all of you on this board are debt free one day.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
I don't think Debtmonkey's original post was taken in the spirit (I believe) it was meant.
I also don't think that DM genuinely set out to 'offend' anybody, but there WAS a 'flippancy' about his apparently 'casual' approach to the whole subject of debt and, in particular, to bankruptcy as an easy 'cure-all' for debt, wheras many of us know it is not.
I niether had, nor do I have, any wish to spark an argument with any fellow DFW/BK posters - I simply wanted to express my opinion on DM's post, before anyone got the idea that there was, or should be, a rift between the DFW forum and the 'Bankruptcy' sub-forum (which is, after all, a part of the DFW forum, and was set up, by Martin, because of the rising number of DFW posters who were either choosing, or facing, bankruptcy.)
Both boards will, inevitably, attract their share of TROLLS, who are intent on disrupting threads with the intention of misleading posters. Let's be honest, some of us only have to post in certain threads and the 'trolls' come streaming in, with their predictable 'debt is of your own making and DFW is debt avoidance' comments. At the same time, it is easy to mistake genuine posters, who hold opposing views, for 'trolls'. Indeed the 'Tough Love' approach to tackling debt, can work wonders for some people, yet appear deeply offensive to others.
At the end of the day, I am pleased to see that, for whatever reasons, DM's thread has sparked off a healthy debate, and that the overall conclusion has been that bankruptcy is a solution for some, but not necessarily for all.
I would also like to thank DEBT MONKEY for coming back on to his thread and clarifying that it was not his original intention to cause any problems, or create any division between any of us. I respect DM for that, and I respect his right to express his views - perhaps, in the future, a bit more diplomatically though DM.
Thanks for reading.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

THE THING IS THAT PEOPLE ON BOTH BOARDS HAVE TO AGREE TO DISAGREE ABOUT THIS
as beening the wife of someone who went bankrupct i can see the point the op was trying to make some people on here are really struggling to repay there debts and there is a way out of the black hole some people face and it is called bankrupcty
i belive that those on here with there holy than thou i spent it i pay it back attitude are repaying there debt because they can aford and so they should to most people who go bankrupct do not do it through choice it is done because it has to be done we had a simple choice pay are cc bill or pay our rent to keep a roof over our heads we paid the rent i dont honestly belive there is one person on this board what would starve their kids and make there famley homeless just to repay a cc bill and if you say would then i dont belive you
why should we all be lumped in the easy way out band for doing what we had to do if you are on a dmp you still havent honerd your contrack with your creditors so you are no better than us who have gone bankrupct we both have shot credit scores now its not about right and wrong its about doing the best for your situation some is bankrupcty some is dmp some is iva we should all be helping each other not attacking each otheri cant slow down i wont be waiting for you i cant stop now because im dancing0 -
I think the OPs attitude of it's so easy why don't you sall do it winds people up. I've seen many posts saying it will take years to pay the debt back so it's easier to go bankrupt, that in my view is wrong. In most cases it takes years to run debt up so why shouldn't it take years to pay back.
On the other hand I see people who have tried everything and then been pushed over the edge. It's all emotive, if people want to go bankrupt they can look for help and advice on the BR board. If they want to pay it back they can seek help and ideas here.Barclaycard 3800

why dose it wind people up the op only said it was for SOME not all and all they have got for trying to help SOME people the op has been acused of making lite or even fun at the bankrupcty system but the way i read it it was like look your struggling things aint going to get no better this may work for you why dose that wind people up
i cant slow down i wont be waiting for you i cant stop now because im dancing0 -
When I read the original post I thought DM was just happy to be out of the stress that his debt was causing him. As he said he didn't mean to stir things it was the perception of the 2nd poster I think that got people hot and bothered.
