Mooloo's little tapestry of life, 2016

Went to see her yesterday and changed the beds etc. So mum is managing better today. Xx
Mum and Dad had help with cleaning and gardening before Dad died, and it was such a help after Dad died as they were both lovely, super-helpful and very flexible. One of my siblings lived near mum, but had neither time nor inclination to do Mum's cleaning, preferring to spend time TALKING to Mum or taking her out.
It was an extra bit of company during the week, it meant that any niggling little jobs got sorted quickly, and it gave the rest of us peace of mind.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks Sue, Mum is very wary of people coming in to the house. They did have a home help years ago, but things were going missing and so they stopped. My grandad had also a bad experience in Scotland, and the carers/help systematically stole things from him so now Mum is adverse to "strangers".
I actually don't mind going over, although Biggest of Mooloo's used to do it before Dad died, but when she went back to work after dgd2, she went full time and had to stop. Since DGS5 was born, she hasn't worked, but hasn't really bothered much with her granny either, although she did go over and do the things I didn't get done while at the doctors this week.
I'm popping over there this morning to help Mum order a new washing machine, as I hope to use the £20 voucher they gave me for buying my things. But I will be opening up the shop first, and just going for an hour when staff arrives.
I will have a word with Biggest to see if she can do more for her Granny, I know Mum would pay her some spending money if she did.
So after dealing with Mum I will be back to the shop to carry on sewing. I have four suits requiring Velcro on them instead of head to toe zips. Should be easy enough to do.
The majority of the work was up to date as of Friday's intake, so that leaves me fairly clear to get on with a thermal bag ordered. I found the fabric for it in the charity shop. Duvets are ideal, and the double one I got was a reduced to £3!!
After work DGD is re-joining Brownies. I hope she stays this time. Annoyingly I gave away her old uniforms!
Oh well. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
How big are the thermal bags, Mooloo? Can they be squished up to store in a limited space?0

As they are filled with polystyrene balls they don't squish that much!
I suppose tightened with out a pan in would reduce them a little. But they are around 100cm circumference I would guess.
There are pictures on the Thermal Cooking Bag Facebook page. But I can't seem to copy the link at the moment. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Do you know that one of the things that really gets to me? Is the fact that since I opened my shop I haven't properly had time for or should I say made time for my friend Molly41.
I follow her daughter on facebook, occasionally see her about, but because firstly I didn't want to bother my friend, then secondly the shop consumed me, I have missed my friend so much.
I know I think about her every day, from a piece of clothing she gave me, to a sleep relaxing spray from Ragdale, to just silly things, yet I haven't been intouch as I'm always to scared to bother her, to intrude,
She'd I'll and needs rest,
Yet I am probably failing her!
So tomorrow I will write her a card, and let her know I'm thinking of her.
Because I am ashamed that I have let my life take over. That's not what friends are supposed to do.
I've been so wrapped up in my life, I have sidelined the most important friend I had! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Well Savvy Sue, you will be pleased to know that my Mums neighbour has arranged for a gardener who does her garden, to come and do a little in my Mums garden once a month for £12.50
He will keep the weeds down and do the lawn, so I won't have to anymore.
Mums new washing machine arrived from AO yesterday and so she is very pleased.
Today I'm taking her back to the doctors at 9.30 as soon as I've finished the school run. Then Biggest of Mooloo's is joining us and we're going to look at curtains and rugs for her birthday. Change her front room colours.
Back for 3pm to collect DGD. Out again back to have a meal at a local restaurant there for one of the grandchildren a birthday.
My silver coins have arrived, ready for all the upcoming rounds of birthdays and Christmas. Well I will need a few more by Christmas, but I'm getting there.
My biggest failing is the food budget. So for the rest of the month I need to stop dipping in and out of the little shops most days as I spend more than I went in for all the time.
I'm totally out of the habit of a weekly or monthly shop!
We have a new mini pound shop just opened and I popped in yesterday on my way to work. Worryingly for my shop they are selling scissors, pins, needles, hemming tapes, elastic etc.
I was the only place you could get them. And they seem to have it cheaper then I can get it trade from my suppliers. So I expect my habadashery etc sales will take a dip.
Time to move. I've been awake an hour, drank my tea and I'm still in bed! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Stop buying the haberdashery trade. Pop into expound shop now and then and just keep a few bits for people to buy from you if they want to. You have the Poundshop to be your stock so don't need to put in a big order!0 -
Had a busy day in the end.
Did the school drive, as had to go see my Mum and take her back to the doctors. Then biggest and her friend came round to Mum to try on her Wedding Dress. It is going to need a little letting out, as it had been taken in by the person who sold it to her. But I said we would do it nearer the wedding.
Then we went out to town to look at, and buy some soft furnishings for the front room, ended up with some bedding and some other bits and pieces as we rummaged through the stock clearance section.
Had Lunch in the cafe in Dunelm mill, and then looked at some carpets and the like near by before going home.
Just in time to collect DGD from school.
A detour home to look at one of her classmates new puppies, and then home to a Tiraid from my neighbour with Bacardi in hand at 4oclock PM as somebody has complained to the council about her dogs. Well it wasn't me. (Although they are noisy little blighters). She was going on and on about finding out who complained, her guess as to who it was ( obviously if it was t me then!!), and stood there about 30 minutes with her drink and cigarette!
Then it was get DGD in the bath and hair washed as it was yuk, and out again for 6pm evening meal for step DGD's birthday meal.
I was stuffed to say the least! The food was too much for all but the three 6ft something men! Even then I think one left some of it.
It was about 8.15 when we got home, and it was bed time for both of us!
I hazard a guess I was probably asleep before DGD!
This morning my little jug of milk had gone off over night. That's twice in a row now. So I've had to come down and make my tea in the kitchen.
Do they class this balmy weather as an Indian Summer yet? ( and why did we used to call a warm September that?)
Today I will be finishing some curtains, filling two thermal cook bags and making a experimental commission for someone. So it's going to be a busy day. At least with the shop being closed I won't have any more surprise jobs in. Oh and then if time a bridesmaids dress to remake with panels as poor girl was given a dress 10" too small! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
I think I will have to stop saying what I plan to do as it never goes to plan.
Loads of fittings in the last two days resulting in major work. And today curtains, blinds and Roman blinds to make from scratch.
Tomorrow I'm teaching all day. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Saturday seems to come around really fast this week.
Today I have a full on day teaching.
This morning we are making an A line skirt, or at least starting it.
This afternoon the children are making emoji cushions.
DGD has gone to play around the neighbour's. No fuss etc which is always a relief.
I'm just sitting in the shop waiting for my ladies to arrive.
I tried to print off some trouble shooting sheets but my printer hasn't been used for so long it tells me the ink has dried up! At somewhere around £50 last time I bought it I'm not thrilled, as replacing it is infuriating.
So the laptop screen will have to suffice, and I will email the documents to the ladies later.
Here comes the post man.
Hopefully the Zips I ordered the other day. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
