That's a lot of data you're getting through - are you sure all your neighbours aren't freeloading?

Given OP chose a 35gb package to start with, I think it is unlikely that anyone is freeloading.. especially when OP hasn't even considered that as a point.

You can get by with a 500mb to 3gb plan if you just browse internet sites. 10gb can handle normal use (including a good number of youtube videos). 35gb is more along the lines of anticipating a 1-2gb a day use, something you are likely to do if downloading or streaming a lot of films/games (sometimes illegally). Maybe !!!!!! is the vice too... 50gb and above is just pure overkill.

Certainly worth the upgrade if you're caning the data, prices seem not unreasonable to be, either the base rate or the metered rate of £2/GB overage. That's a lot of data you're getting through - are you sure all your neighbours aren't freeloading?
How could they? unless they've been given the password. I can see my neighbours' WiFi connections but not access them as I don't know their P/Ws.

Some assumptions you're making here! There are many ways to get through data without being a pervert or a pirate. I am neither and have an unlimited account.

I wouldn't say 52GB is "caning it" nowadays.

Hell, I bought GTA V in the Steam sale a few days ago and that was 65GB.

Prior to that my usage over around two weeks was approximately 150GB and half of that was from YouTube.

Well watching !!!!!! isn't necessarily perverted (we all do it occasionally, well a good number of people - not 50gb worth like but you know), and not all media streaming is pirated (hence "sometimes illegally" phrase).

I kindly ask you to enlighten me as to how you can use up 50gb a month if it doesn't involve any of the following:

    1. Legal video streaming (movies and youtube)

    2. Legal game streaming

    3. Illegal video and game streaming

    4. !!!!!!

    5. Browsing half (minor exaggeration) of the wikipedia library @ a few kb per page

One possibility is bbc iplayer (and other catch up players) being used instead of a tv, especially for a large household.

Fair enough. With the likes of BBC Iplayer you can probably do it for much cheaper on Freeview only. With Netflix and other similar sites (luxury items) you can possibly run up a 50gb a month usage. In that respect, you have a valid point.

EDIT: If you re-read my posts you can see that I included this:

"1. Legal video streaming (movies and youtube)" [post 15]

"streaming a lot of films" [post 12].

So I'm not sure how I was initially disagreeing with you in the first place....

Depends who you mean by "you". I could use bbc iplayer (without a licence fee) much cheaper than freeview, as I am on an unlimited broadband plan that is not expensive.

As it happens I do have a tv licence and use a freeview pvr for most viewing and so don't download that much. However I don't find it difficult to understand how others could download significantly more than 50GB a month without much effort - e.g. if they don't have a pvr yet want to watch tv programmes when they want rather than when they are broadcast.

Just because you couldn't doesn't mean nobody could. For instance, maybe the WiFi password is guessable, maybe it was given to a visiting guest who's discovered they're in range, maybe it was socially engineered, maybe it's WEP which was effectively cracked a decade ago, maybe it's... So the question is worth asking if someone suddenly managed to double their usage.

I'm not sure why you are arguing with me about anything here. My initial post was just giving plausible examples of how 35gb+ could be used, notably:

"35gb is more along the lines of anticipating a 1-2gb a day use, something you are likely to do if downloading or streaming a lot of films/games (sometimes illegally)"

Apologies if I didn't spell it out but I would have assumed that people would assume that streaming films can include catch up TV (hence the inclusion of "sometimes illegally" as well, to indicate legal use).

I then basically went on to ask another user why my "assumptions" were wrong, to which I've had no reply.

So hopefully that's cleared up. Onto the TV licence point, your circumstances have no bearing on anything. It only highlights that you can purchase a broadband plan which is economical (in regards to the issue being discussed). In OP's case they would theoretically be forking out £420 a year (£35x12) for access to bbc iplayer - it would thus be cheaper to go the Freeview way in their situation. So me thinks there is more than just catch up TV going on (or the initial 35gb plan is unsuitable/a rip off).
