Karoo Internet OverUsage Ridiculous Charges- Your advice?

Hi there forum,
So my internet pack is 35gb per month. This month I have exceeded it by 17gb and my internet company have let me know they will be charging my £2 per gb so an additional £36 for this overuse. Typically my package costs £31 for 35 gb. Add to that a 100gb a month package costs £35, yet I am being charged minimum as it stands £67. This doesn't seem fair or reasonable to me? Do I have any rights in this not being fair?
Summary
Monthly Package I have (35gb)- £31
Monthly Package above mine that comes with 100gb standart - £35
Charge Im facing having used 35gb plus 17gb over use -£67
What are your thoughts? I am just shocked at how much the over-usage charges are!
P.S they possible will increase as its still not the end of December!

I doubt there is much you can do as £2 per gb is not excessive. I am also sure these costs were included in the T's & C's you agreed to when you signed up.
It sounds like it's probably worth upgrading to the 100 gb package.0 -
As noted you agreed to those charges when you signed-up, so perfectly fair.
Might be worth checking if you can upgrade to the 100G package before the end of the month to avoid the extra charges.0 -
Noted and noted. I will try to get an upgrade!
Surprised you think the charges aren't excessive though? I know for bank charges they have to prove that its costs them that much in how much you going over disadvantages them. Clearly in this situation you can get 65GB more (on the 100 package) for an extra £4, so the fact they are charging me £36 for an extra 17gb does seem excessive. In fact it is 12x more expensive
Thanks for comments though, you are right in all you say!0 -
Are they the only ISP available to you? £31 per month for a limited usage plan sounds expensive ... you should be able to get an unlimited usage plan for less than that.0

Karoo (KC) is Kingston-upon-Hull and surrounding areas and they have the broadband monopoly there because they also own the phone system (a monopoly successive governments have allowed to stand) and do not allow any other ISPs to use it or install kit in their exchanges. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I don't think they do. There has been crackdowns on banks charging excessive fees but certainly not making a profit with fees! After all they are a commercial operation.
Also there's a difference between a bank whom handle your finances and should be regulated and a broadband company offering you a service for which you agreed to pay £x and £y for z.0 -
Did you agree to it in the terms and conditions? If so then either:
1. You should have picked the more expensive plan (scrimping on £4 extra cost you £36! That's karma).
2. Restrict your use to less than 35gb a month*
* Hopefully you weren't doing anything illegal to use up 52 gb a month (about 1-2 gb a day).0 -
Did you get any warnings saying how close to the limit you were? I get emails from them warning me when I've used various amounts like 75% and 90% etc. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0

That happened to me some years ago when I signed up for an unlimited package and they turned it into a limited package and I agreed to it, not knowing how much (or how little) you can download for, say, 1Gb as it's not just the actual file sizes but all the overheads and when you visit a website, you may not deliberately download anything yet you are constantly downloading data, images, videos, etc.
I did think the charges per GB were excessive but I had agreed to them when I went for that package so not much I could do moneywise. However, in this day and age you can always express your dissatisfaction with a company or service somewhere online. Social media, forums, blogs, reviews etc. are all there for you.Big corporations take advantage of the unwary, it's time we learned how to deal with them:dance::dance::dance:Any comments are based on personal experience and interest in consumer matters, they do not constitute advice.0 -
Certainly worth the upgrade if you're caning the data, prices seem not unreasonable to be, either the base rate or the metered rate of £2/GB overage. That's a lot of data you're getting through - are you sure all your neighbours aren't freeloading?0
