    Yes, that's a fantastic result!
Insane new quotes from the previous people, and amazing to think that for the two cars you've saved over 600 quid by changing to a new provider!

Also, since I'm a newbie here that's the first post of yours I've seen, and I think it's also amazing you cleared 49k of debt in only 6 years! Awesome!
I'd take my hat off to you except I don't wear one.

Thanks Dave! It just really goes to prove: Loyalty doesn't pay. Banks and other financial institution are not our friends.

Indeed it was a weight off my shoulders to be free of that massive debt. My only regret is not having discovered MSE before and during my journey, I only found out about the forums a year ago. It probably would have taken much less time, had I been money wiser then.

Good luck on your quest for financial freedom!

    Hi everyone :hello:

Quick post from me today - 5 eggs yesterday, three today = 80p, plus £1.26 brand match at Tesco yesterday. Small found a penny on the floor and I picked up 26p next to the trolley park. £2.33 to add to my total :)

TOG - your savings are fantastic! Well done :T

We were supposed to have a pizza lunch at work today for the people who did not go to the Annual Conference in another European capital city. There are about 20 people left in the office, 80 have gone to the conference. The people in the office are offered a nice lunch as compensation. However, due to the bomb explosions at the airport and the metro station, the festive lunch was cancelled. I did not bring any other food, and had to order lunch. So: unwombled €10,95.

Fantastic to have you back posting TOG that really is a very high meal allowance. Did you manage to actually spend that each day out of interest?
Back in my corporate days I used to have to fly up and down the country on a regular basis and had food expenses plus taxis etc. A lot of the cabs would give you blank cab reciept cards if you tipped well ;)
And I always made sure I bought things that I could use outside of the particular situation. WH sells bags of dried fruits for example that were handy for baking.
I can imagine how it must feel taking your baby to visit a university. It goes so fast.
    Brilliant results.

Hugs to Siebrie - :grouphug: and anyone else worrying.

Not much wombling done, as keeping spending very, very low in anticipation of transferring deposit, but tomorrow the kids' accounts mature so that is that problem taken care of.

The mortgage is now sorted!! :jThey decided to change the amount again, and dropped the offer by...... £200, which is frankly ridiculous, so instead of borrowing £120k we have a £119,800.00 mortgage. So stupid, but luckily I have wombled more than £200 already this year, so can absorb the huge financial implications!!:rotfl: So worry not gentle Wombles.

The mortgage vs renting saving will be the hugest of all my wombles this year. Unless I win the lotto (that I don't do, so odds not in my favour).

  • Hi Bob, it's nice to be back to posting again. I hope I can keep it up this time although when we go abroad to visit the parents I am not sure if we could get reliable internet source.

About the meal allowance, I couldn't spend the whole amount on myself every night. The only time I did was during the last night, I had a full three course meal with drinks and spent £32. On my first evening in the hotel, I was full from eating snacks that I packed in my bag and by the time I got peckish it was so late at night a) I didn't feel safe going out alone to eat and b) I couldn't physically eat a heavy meal. So I decided to order room service for a bowl of red pepper and roast tomato soup with a bread roll and I nearly fell off my chair when I paid for it - £8 for a small bowl and I had to ring up again for some butter. Extortionate! I'm beginning to think that this is the downside to being a frugalist - you start resenting spending money, hahaha!

Siebrie hugs to you. Sorry to hear about what's happening in Belgium.
