Welcome on board, squeekyweasle, anyone can join in at any time, so have fun frugaling.
Jess, yes, I realised it was a second car, hence the reason I thought you'd be able to do without it.When you count up the cost of initial purchase (or finance costs) plus insurance, tax, MOTs, servicing, wear and tear, it can creep up to a huge amount of savings over a full year, so have fun investing those savings in debt free fun and whatever nest eggs you have.
Guessing you'll all have seen the updates relating to online sellers trading from home - £1,000 tax free isn't to be sneezed at, eh? :jI reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
Frugal living challenge - living on little in 2025 while frugalling towards retirement.0 -
Just switched Gas and Leccy again and my predicted monthly DD is going to be £34, quite a drop from the current £52 at the moment (although I am £113 in credit with current supplier) I'm really impressed at how well we've cut back on our gas and leccy despite now having a dishwasher and washer/drier (and the drier has had more than it's fair share of usage over winter)
Still working on cutting our weekly spends budget down, going to aim for £50 if possible. We're currently around the £60 mark which is much better than the £80 a week we used to spend.0 -

I know Frugaldom the money we spend on cars is ridiculous. I think the money I wil be saving on tax / insurance / petrol I will put away each month as a sort of 'car emergency fund'. Our other car is getting pretty old too, so I am sure a 'new' car will be needed within the next few years.
I wasn't aware of the updates re online trading from home ... off to search for the information. Thanks0 -
We dropped down to 1 car 6 years ago but I do have my bus passed , we've only put £53.95 worth of petrol in the car so far this year and it's still almost 3 quarters full but we will use most of this when we go in our Easter break. We are well under budget this month so in very pleased we don't go mad when we go away so should still stay in budget biggest spend will be fish and chips on Monday when we get there at lunchtime it's our first day treat and the rest of the week will be sarnies when we go out and about. xWhy pay full price when you may get it YS0

Free For All
Hi, I just wanted to share an amazing local community iniative that I went to this morning.
Basically local people donated in unwanted items from 4 - 6pm last night and 9 - 10am this morning.
At 10am today you could take home anything that you wanted, FREE of charge.
I thought there might have been a bit of jostling etc but it was extremely civilised.
My daughter was over the moon to pick up an almost brand new pair of Healys in her size."One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
