My Virgin BB just gave:
Download: 108.86 Mb/s
Upload: 7.38 Mb/s

I'm getting 157Mbs on the south coast
Even if the OP doesn't have 100Mbs + broadband now, they will soon. When I first got VM (NTL as it was then) I was on 256Kbs.
When you can have a gigabit switch for just a couple of £ more then a 100Mbs switch is a false economy.
And remember: if you're sharing files locally across devices connected to the switch, the speed of your ISP connection isn't a limiting factor.0 -
Define "unnecessarily fast broadband"?
It's a statement made by a 19th centuary pig farmer as a means to deflect from the fact they have been demonstrated to be an anachronism.
Careful, do you know that people will suffocate at speeds in excess of 25mph.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

Got a D-Link 5 Port Gigabit switch for £11, works perfectly.
Thanks for all the input.

It would but this is MSE, so a switch is cheaper, cable is already installed so why ignore what is already there? And the OP had already purchased and installed a switch over 24 hours before you posted your suggestion?0
