  • Well Wiggle and I have another cold, it's not the end of the world but it is enough to make you feel ever so slightly rubbish all day! Nevermind it's par for the course with a little one!

I haven't done much sale shopping but went to Matalan the other day and picked up some fab Christmas bargains! Some of the bits I actually saw online before Christmas but never got around to buying: a cute little robin mug reduced to 50p (I bought one as a present for my MiL too), a 'Baby it's cold outside' slate sign 50p, a silicone Christmas tree cake mould 50p, a Naughty/Nice kilner style glass mug 50p and some small festive gift boxes 50p for two (I bought 4 packs). So I got all that for £4.50!! I thought the sign would look nice hung by the coat rack and I'm planning to make some Christmas tree shaped gingerbread with white chocolate icing this year. The gift boxes are ideal as i'm planning to make some reindeer fingerprint baubles with Wiggle's fingerprint and these boxes are an ideal size to package them in for gifts for the Grandparents etc. The Naughty/Nice mug was an impulse buy, i'm not sure who i'll give it to but it was such a bargain at 50p and I thought it would be nice filled with treats. I daren't look on the Boots website, more because I bought some stuff recently before the 70% off sale and I don't want to see if any of the stuff I bought has been reduced anymore! I have started my cross stitch Christmas cards, i'm going to keep ploughing on and will hopefully have enough by this Christmas!

We're supposed to be heading to the in-laws today as they're having a little celebration for FiL's birthday. I'm feeling quite rubbish with this cold but part of me thinks it will be good to go as it'll be a distraction!

Not long now Fiesty, how very exciting. This time next year you will be planing a birthday party.

All this talk of colds and stuff, not to be left out I have woken up with earache and sore throat.

Had to go to nearest town for money for the workers yesterday.Nearest bank 6 miles away.Nipped into a charity shop and bought 2 boots toiletries gift sets for £6.Obviously someones unwanted Christmas presents. No idea how much they would be,they are large lavender sets. Will do for my Mum and MIL.I also bought an organza table cloth in Christmas red for 50p.I will have a go at making some Christmas fairies with it on pegs for our craft stall.

Kitchen will be nice when its done, yes, but I have had enough now.Diet out of the window, very stressed.it is just a room now with a sink and tap whilst the floor is levelled. The wonky wall is boarded ready for plastering on Monday.Radiator removed.Kitchen being delivered on Wednesday.Good to go.We are having our bedroom plastered on Monday/Tuesday.Within the next 2 weeks all the work will be done and they move outside. The cleaning then begins!

I am going to Amsterdam with dd1 next Sunday. It will be nice to be somewhere that doesnt have a good layer of grit on everything, but I am thinking I am losing cleaning time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Sorry for all the moaning.Vx

  • vulpix, enjoy Amsterdam, l never saw a tombstone that read ''I wish I had spent more time cleaning the house'' so forget about it while you are away. (l forget about it for months at a time, in the summer, when the garden calls me!)
Feisty, l echo what the others have said, and l look forward so so much to hearing all about the new bub soon.
Free, if you get a single bed will it be big enough for the two of you? nothing nicer than a morning cuddle with the grandnib!
You are all correct, l did cave in and go to the sale, l also used vouchers and points and spent £24 odd to nab nearly £150 worth. although l would never have paid the original outrageous price for any of it!
Also went to Deben hams sale and got some science museum bits at 70% off for stocking fillers.
Now, l am sales' d out and need to rest the plastic for a month or two.
  • Hi all,

Welcome to the delurkers and hugs to those who need them.

Freespirit, my son has only been gone a month. He moved, lock, stock, barrel and snakes in with his girlfriend but they decided they were happier in different houses so back he comes. The problem is, I swapped my DD into his room as it was bigger and turned her room into a “spare”. I always dreamed of having a spare room with guest towels and toiletries in. Thoughts of friends/ family coming to stay. I fantasised about adding fresh flowers and bottled water to the room when visitors were due………
BANG! My boy is back. I am actually thrilled about it as I missed him so much. I would rather have him than a spare room.

I have a large freezer in my understairs cupboard. I couldn't manage without it. I use those plastic boxes from pound shops to freeze the portions in and writ on the lids with a sharpie. It is amazing how quickly they can build up…….and go down if I don't keep an eye on them.

Feisty, the bread and loaf look delish….I can taste it from here.

Freespirit, you may be able to put either books or bricks under the cracked wooden bit to support it until you decid what to do. This might hep with your movements as you must be shuffling around very gingerly in case it gives way.

Vulpix, I got my kitchen from Wickes and they were great. They accepted returns of things I changed my mind about and found others in different stores and got them transferred to my local store. Nothing was a bother.

Well, last weekend after I had finished the bathroom and reinstated my boys room, my DD said that the walls in the kitchen looked like someone had thrown coffee at them. When I looked they were filthy. I'm sure it wasn't like that the week before. It amazes me that the grime becomes apparent overnight. She suggested that I needed to paint them but I really didn't have the energy. After a bit of thought, I remembered my old wallpaper steamer in the loft. I got it down and got cracking using the hose without the plate on it. I steamed the walls, tiles, cupboard doors, skirtings and upvc back door frame/ window frame wiping with a cloth as I went. It is gleaming.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It took a couple of hours but much quicker than washing everything with sugar soap before giving a couple of coats of paint. It was also free- apart from the electricity!

Time to pop off and see if Boots have anything left.

  • vulpix enjoy Amsterdam, housework can always wait!

    freespirit
you do sound organised, it's great! Oh we have a GermSpreader here too (I love that name!), honestly I could never have imagined having so many colds!! Usually I get them quite mildly but this one is a bit of a humdinger.

Gosh it's cold outside! All frosty too – this is how it should have looked at Christmas! We may have to move Christmas to 25th Jan from now on. :p Last year I wanted to buy myself a really decent, good quality winter coat that would last me, the coats I buy may be reasonably priced but they wear out and fall apart quickly. I saved up some money to buy one and tried a beautiful one on in Whistles but it was £195! Lots of people kept telling me that's normal for a good coat but the MSE side of me just couldn't bring myself to buy it at that price, but then I snapped it up last week when it was half price at £97.50! I know that's still a lot of money, but i'd saved for it and now I have a really good winter coat – just in time for the really cold weather! It's funny because we could probably do with our hot chocolate station now, the mild weather in December didn't do it justice!

Does anyone on here watch The Voice? I must admit that I was (wrongly) a bit put off that Boy George was joining the panel, mainly because I didn't know that much about him and wasn't sure what he could bring to it – but I love him on there! He is soooo funny! Way more entertaining than Tom Jones!

I don't think we're going to be up to much today, i'm having a bit of time out this morning and we won't want to be out in this cold weather for long. I should probably get sorting through stuff so that we're organised to start packing for our move in a couple of months. Anyway I hope you all have a good day whatever you're doing. xx
  • PrincessKitty You were fortunate to find your new coat in the sales. :)

  • What a cold day!!! there is a layer of white fluffy stuff on the ground pretty, but slippy.
Well done, Princess Kitty on your MSE posh new coat. Yesterday l swapped a pair of leather boots (new look sale) with heels that were just too high for me, for a lovely fur gilet with one of my friends. Now l can be toasty warm and .........gasps.......fashionable!
    but only indoors of course.
Has anyone noticed how small a selection there has been in Halfcost recently? there used to be pages and pages of stuff. but l still managed to get my order up to the free postage level.
Fave cousins DS1 got engaged last weekend, came to show me the ring yesterday. Her DS2 gets married in November, (the one l,m doing the flowers for) a very happy and exciting time for us all.
l know what you mean about grime showing up overnight, oops Skype is on xxxxx

Managed to get some Christmas bargains in the reduced section at a local indie chemist yesterday a nice gardening kit for step mum £2.50, two
Lego type kits for 75p each and a gingerbread man shaped sponge and body wash for £2.

We woke up to about an inch of snow this morning but it's thawing fast now.

  • Oh my gosh this thread is moving along so quickly, 16 pages already and I'm just so behind on reading through everything!!

I have bought a few more items to put away for Christmas, I just need to keep a list of everything now so I remember what I've bought so I don't buy too much or forget anything.

We've had a quiet weekend. I've started using my slow cooker to get used to it before I start putting stuff on overnight or while I'm in work. It will be nice to come home to a big pot of chilli all ready for us to serve. I need to learn how to use it properly first.
