Try going to live in an Islamic country as an 'unbeliever' and see how tolerant they are. But is it bigotry that they practice, or just a cautious way of preserving their way of life? Or both?
Britain actually has a history of tolerance in general. But sometimes this would be exploited by those who are not themselves tolerant at all, and who have an agenda of spreading their own bigotry and intolerance in the most evil ways. It would be irresponsible not to exercise caution in protecting our tolerant society.
Today the birth of an enlightened being is celebrated, who was able to suffer the consequences of his extreme tolerance in a victorious way. Unfortunately most of us don't have that capacity, so to be tolerant without limitation is just a nice idea, a fantasy. Better to be realistic and avoid living in a fantasy, but also avoiding the extreme of bigotry ourselves.Evolution, not revolution0 -
So we have two stories here. 1 a family aren't allowed into america, personally I would consider that a bonus but I suppose some may want to go there. 2 the airline refused to refund the tickets. Got to wonder if they knew before that they would be refused travel and if they resold or oversold the tickets - my guess is they did. Nothing like extra profit for the shareholders!
Britain USED to have a history of tolerance but the 60s are long gone now.0 -

can you honestly say we would have seen the headline if it were a "British Christian family" or ""British Sikh Family" or "British Jewish family".
If it were any other religion other than Muslim nobody would know about it or care.
Surprisingly hardly any press about the UK refusing entry to a USA citizen http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/stockport-womans-heartbreak-american-fiance-10628916
The link that you're giving does not contain anything out of the ordinary - the UK home office in this link explained the reason they refused entry for the husband is because he mentioned he wanted to be in the UK for 6 months and that's a pretty long time and thus they had to decline his visit after interviewing him (you need to prove you have enough means to live on your own for 6 months and that you have intentions to return etc. - if I were him I would fill out the Landing Card mentioning I'm visiting the UK for 4 days and then probably nobody would have asked me questions!)
Anyway the link I gave in the very first post shows the US did not provide any sort of explanation whatsoever - but then you posted the explanation from the DailyMail which is sufficient for me personally and I mostly agree with you here, but I just wanted to show you the link you are using now cannot be used for comparison ... it's completely black & white where in one case you get no answers, absolutely nada and in another case (your link) it's a typical denial of entry...0 -

But if you can understand our and the US's security forces are stretched to the limit with so many terrorist cells springing up all over the place all intent on blowing up me and you and as it's now Xmas the most important Christian season which makes it a good time for martyrs to commit suicide, you may take a bit of time to think perhaps this wasn't an over-reaction. SIS and SS in the UK reckon there's a potential 2,000 cells and to surveillance them all is nigh-on impossible. If I had a choice on how I would die it certainly wouldn't be by having my arms and legs blown off by a terrorist who believes he'll get 72 dark-eyed virgins in Paradise.
Yes, well said.
Unfortunately in some way Islam has brought all this upon itself... I don't know any other religion in this world that its extreme view is tending to sanctify the killing of innocent people...

Hmmmmmmm, I'm starting to rethink keeping you out of the bigot category, you certainly sound like one...
I'm not sure if you're prejudiced or have mental capacity issues, but the reason people particularly care about Muslims being denied every to the US is because of the anti-Muslim rhetoric coming from the US - including US authorities - not because we love Muslims and don't care about anyone else...
That's not at all surprising... People are denied entry to countries all the time if they're suspected of trying to illegally move there/overstay their visa/work, both the US and Canada have temporarily detained me for that reason (annoying, but I can understand their suspicions). Completely different to what the media believe happened in this case.0 -

Why on Earth would I want to live in an Islamic country? Though there are several that wholly tolerate non believers - Eastern Europe and Turkey being obvious examples. Have you ever visited a secular Muslim country? The repeated mantra of "it's fine to do something wrong because someone else does something worse" is pathetic. It's also incredibly perverse as it effectively makes the people you're whinging about role models when extended to it's logical extreme.
Bigots are bigots through intolerance, not through "life preservation". Islamic terrorism is FAR down the list of what could kill you, the majority who choose to focus on it above, say, car crashes are merely being prejudiced (whether consciously or not).0 -

Ermmmmmm, Christianity... The bible is full of torture, murder and genocide and that's exactly what people used to do (and still do in small numbers). Unfortunately you can't say the same of Islam, but it's mindblowing ignorance to think there's a significant difference between the two religions on this topic.0 -

I'm talking about nowadays, not about history.
Do you know any Christians nowadays that would act in the same way ISIS acts? (and not talking about one or two crazy individuals)...0
