Stewby - BBQ sauce, have you tried this one?
1 small onion, chopped and fried gently till soft in a little oil
Add 6 tablespoons of tomato ketchup, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 tablespoon vinegar, and 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce.
Cook gently on a low heat for 10 mins to blend flavours.
Don't remember where it came from (probably a friend), been using it for years, and doesn't cost a quid a sachet
Thanks Dawn. We will give it a go and see how it is. Fingers crossed it works. We love Hunter's Chicken but just can't justify the cost of buying two sachets for one meal.

Xspender - Not sure whether to say sorry about the house falling through or not. It sounds like it might have been a blessing in disguise now that you have decided that it isn't what you want.

Hi everyone!
SFD 6 today.
Got 2 free cans of de-icer using codes on mobiles. Left my purse at home so I wouldnt be tempted to spend whilst out picking them up.
Hung some more curtains in the house today and have them all drawn to keep in some heat. Our boiler kicked in during the night last night as it got so cold, so doing everything I can to keep energy costs down.
Dd has decided to give up on her after school activity as the instructor has announced that parents are no longer welcome to stay and watch. I think she has been wanting to quit for a while but this was the final straw. This will save £20 a month, but have promised she can try horse riding. Have priced it up at between £12-20 a session, so she understand it will only be once a month or so. Will look at starting this in feb.
Can't wait for pay day at the end of this week so I can start making some dents in this debt!0 -
Hello and good evening fellow turtles!
Firstly hugely congratulations to mothernerd[/B on your new DF status! So happy for you!
Hugs must.try.harder, I know exactly how you feel. For a time I felt that saving for the EF was much much harder than paying off debt because money always seem to find an exit route. But with the encouragement of nice people here and the EF board, I realised that I should be grateful that I have the EF to absorb all the pressures that life demands, in the past it would have meant being deeper in overdraft or credit card debt. We are heading to the right direction, we are just taking the scenic route, albeit a bit uphill (at least it's going up not down.)
Bob thanks for that heartwarming story. It certainly has given me the ray of sunshine that I need. I was just chatting to my best friend over the phone. She's feeling a bit worn-out by some of the gossip-mongering, puller-downer, grumblers that surrounds her/us. I said to her that life is a mixture of positive and negative minded people, each doing their part in the equilibrium in life. Sometimes we need negative people to point out things positive minded people would miss or ignore. There are also some people who have the power to spot every little minute details to complain about for the sake of complaining. Then there are people who can see some many positive aspects in every situation. The choice is ours whether we want to be the "nega" star or the ray of sunshine in this dark and gloomy world.
Stewby I also used to buy the ready made bbq sauces but found that they never really hit the spot. So I tried this: Words of warning, I am a chuck-it-all-together, season-to-taste kind of cook (weird for somebody who works in a scientific field). I combine the following: ketchup, soy sauce, vinegar or fresh lemon juice, sugar, salt, ground black pepper, minced garlic (lots of). Keep basting until cooked.
Oh before I forget, I'm reporting NSD no. 7. I've also added £120 to the EF (my first extra payment this month) taking the total EF to £1858.08 (15% of the target £12,000)
I have some wombled receipts when I went shopping yesterday that I should have uploaded on cos and csnap but forgot to do it. Note to self: upload receipts tomorrow.
Things are still going well in my new job. I am so lucky to have this job. I had a few texts from my former colleague asking me what I would like as a leaving present. She asked if I would like something to do with sewing, gardening or voucher. I said I am grateful for anything (though I would be lying if I didn't think to myself, I'd like cash or voucher pls). In the end I said, surprise me! We'll find out on the 22nd what it will be.
Time for me to hit the sack. Sorry for the long post. Good night."There is Life AFTER DEBT."LBM 2009 Total Debt £49046.24 Debt Free as of 27/08/20150 -

Congrats mothernerd.
Bob - what a nice young lady that must have been.
I have been looking at my February budgets and it is going to be a very spendy month, sometimes the spending seems never ending.
Today I am calling at Lidl, Co-op and Asda for some things that I can't get at Sainsburys (or are on offer) when I do my normal grocery shop on Wednesday.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Morning turtles.
Grey wet and miserable here or is that just me?
Paid 14.00 off cc1 today to round it down. Usual DD for cc2 30.00 hit bank account so a grand total off 44.00 off the cards today.
Must try Harder - hopefully my water damage is just a painted wall, however my bedroom ( newly decorated) smells still like wet wallpaper - hoping it hasn't hit there as well, same outside wall and when its driving rain it gets worse. Will start looking at costs for repairs soon and save for them!!!!!!!
Bob lot of lonely people out there, I will make an effort and call in at some I know more. Does me good as well as I spend too much time alone.
