Just doing my first ever switch and currently on SP.

A VERY basic question regarding the 'standing charge' on every provider....is that as well as the KWH or upto and over?

So for instance is the standing charge is 23p a day and the KWH is 2p... will I be charged 23p per day and the amount of KWH I have used? OR will I be charged the KWH I have used minus the 23p per day?

I know I should probably find a more generic post but I am just about to press the button for Bulb and then thought I best check. I am more than likely going to be using more energy in my new house, so in my mind the standing charge is less important if it is in scenario two above as I will most probably always use the standing charge amount and therefore the lower KWH would be more effective for me?

You will be charged based on 23p per day plus the amount of KWH you have used at that unit rate.

Consult a comparison site to find the best deal for you (and don't worry too much as to what or how the price is arrived at :))
  • I'm thinking of switching to Bulb having read many positive reviews (the referral credit as bonus definitely helps!).

I've one questions though, do Bulb still pay the exit fees from your current supplier? If so, how is this processed?

Everything that you need to know is on the supplier's website:

What about exit fees from my current supplier?

    We’ll pay your exit fees.

If you leave another supplier with more than 49 days left on a fixed contract, you may be charged an exit fee. But don’t worry, we’ll refund any charges made to you.

All you need to do is email in a copy, photocopy or scan of your final bill to help@bulb.co.uk and we’ll credit your Bulb account on the same day.

Just make sure that the supply address, bill date and exit fee charges are all clearly displayed.

  • Also in addition to the above, for one week only Bulb have doubled their referral reward for the next 7 days. You'll get £100 and your friend will get £100 when they sign up to Bulb through a referral.

You will find referrals just about everywhere! (including MSE's very own thread.)

:rotfl:, especially in view of this other recent post in this thread
Amazing how many first posters telling us how great Bulb is and always including a referral code. Spam Energy more appropriate name for this firm :)

Also, there was another post only today, albeit in aother thread, by a respected and long time user of this board

Ok, so posted in another thread, and in that case about another product, but if the cap fits....

But thank you for taking the time and energy to set up a brand new user account at MSE to make this indispensible post.
May I be the first to welcome you to MSE :hello:

... and wish you the good luck!

Yep we do. Send us a copy of your final bill from your old supplier once your switch is complete and we'll credit the cost of it into your Bulb account.

    ...

Sounds like this ponzi scheme is running out of steam ... as they all eventually do.

I hear this is supposedly to recognise their 200,000th customer

Yet is was only in August this year they claimed to have reached their 100,000th customer - so that is a doubling in just 3 months

To put that into context, BG with it's 14.something million customers hit the news earlier this year by losing a massive 400,000 customers in a whole year. With over 50 different energy suppliers to choose from, there is no evidence they are all moving to Bulb.

If true, must be the fastest growing energy supplier in history. Suppliers such as Ebico who have been in business for 18 years, or Zog who only seem to have positive feedback and have been in business for 4 years could only dream of these numbers.
Bulb Energy only launched about 18 months ago.

So not sure if this is the power of a Ponzi scheme or not. Remember how quickly the 'Women empowering women' ponzi scheme grew; where is that now?

But if Bulb really do now have this amount of customers, it's going to be a hard battle for those now joining to each get themselves a new referral bonus - that would mean another 200,000 customers for Bulb if they just had 1 each.
This would explain the rediculous money they now seem to be throwing at this. £200 per new customer? If they have this much 'marketing budget' to throw around, they should simply drop their prices and they will soon have genuine new customers. Even Bulb admits it's only about £50 per new customer referral via comparison sites.
Remember where the 'marketing budget' of any responsible company comes from? Yes, from profit derived from existing (and hopefully new) customers.

Having to offer Warm Home Discount must be just around the corner.

We launched over 2 years ago, but yes. We're very happy with how things are going :)

200k is 0.7% of the UK energy market. There is plenty of space for us to continue growing.

It's also only fair for me to point out that a ponzi scheme requires participants to invest and inherently creates no value. This is the complete opposite of what we do. We provide value by being an affordable green energy supplier with good customer service. And there is no investment to join or barrier to leave if you don't like us since we don't have contracts or exit fees. We just prefer to give our marketing budget to our members than to big advertising companies.

We can afford to have such a generous referral scheme because our members stay with us a lot longer than other suppliers. Our profit margins per year are a lot lower than other energy companies, but each customer spends many more years with us, so it all works out.

We can't afford £200 per switch full time, but we can for a week or so.
