  • Munich! It's amazing for a winter break, easy to get around, and plenty to do if you like culture. The main airport is on the U bahn so it's simple to get into the centre, you can get a 3 day travel card to use all the public transport. There are so many museums, sights, and trips you can do. There are free walking tours where you tip at the end - I'e done this one a few times - http://www.newmunichtours.com

There are great art galleries, Nymphenburg Palace, if you like cars the BMW Welt and Museum, if you like history you can go to Dachau on the S bahn, which is really interesting. There's lot of historical buildings, typical German food and beer (the Weisses Brauhaus does typical Bavarian food and is always packed), you can wander round the centre with lots of churches, shops and market stalls. I love the Deutsches Museum, it has so many exhibits about science and industry. The Pinakothek art museums are great if you like any kind of art - I saw a fabulous exhibition a few years ago about innovative architectural projects in Africa, so look out for special exhibitions. Hotels can be a little expensive, but cheaper than Vienna.

I liked Prague, it was quite cheap (and most of the stag do types seem to be going further east to Bucharest and Riga now) but have been back to Munich and the area round it so many times that if you haven't already been I would recommend it first.

Not in winters when there's hardly any daylight.

Amsterdam in winter can be freezing, the wind whistles and chills you to the bone. Not struck on Amsterdam at any time of the year personally but in winter it can be bitterly cold. I would agree with those suggesting Nice/Monaco or Lisbon which should be a little warmer than cold Amsterdam

Another vote for Lisbon. I like Madrid but it is quite high up and can be very cold in the winter.
  • Not sure people are reading my posts :D
I've been to Lisbon and no one suggested it anyway!
I'd rather do coastal breaks like Monaco when I've got more cash and when it's hot and can be enjoyed more.
    I'm leaning to Prague
