I have purchase mine, so clearly best to buy long in advance.
Wow, very glad I managed to nab one for our trip the other night!"Don't sacrifice what you want most for what you want now"

We always make the trek up to the i-Hop up near the Stratosphere for breakfast one day. We first went on our very first visit in 2003 and there's a waitress there who's been there I'm sure since that first trip (she has incredibly long hair so is very memorable). On our first visit it seemed like the most American place in the world, the food is cheap but good, the coffee is strong and the service is excellent. We've always said if we're ever millionaires we'll go there and leave a $2000 tip for our $20 brekkie
We also always go to the Spice Market buffet every trip and get a chonga margarita from Tacos & Tequilas one night in Luxor. The latter is because when we went a couple of years ago we had a Groupon for these. While I was in the restroom a very respectable looking older lady approached my husband and said "Hey, where'd you get those FU@*IN glasses?". We love that memory, sums up the difference (in a nice way) between people at home and people in Vegas...she's probably someone's lovely, sweet granny"Don't sacrifice what you want most for what you want now"

We always go on a hike in the surrounding hills. Last week we hiked near Boulder City with our hiking guide and friend. Great view from the top. We could see Las Vegas, Boulder City and Lake Mead.
We usually do happy hours in 777 Brew pub at Main Street Station, Bahama Breeze on Flamingo, and TGI Friday at Gold Coast.
Alway do both outlets for shopping too.
Always visit Downtown.
There are probably more thing we always do. Can't think of any more just now.0 -
Derek Stevens has bought Glitter Gulch, Mermaids and La Bayou downtown. They will be closing end of June. No more deep fried Twinkies.
Can't manage to post a link from my phone.0 -
Hi
Got a few questions, if anybody could answer some of them it would be much appreciated.
1) How much are you looking at for a buffet mid strip
2) If you are not somebody that eats masses of food, is it better value to get a sandwich for lunch and dinner? Im guessing US sandwiches will be large
3) Are there any places on the strip to book an ad hoc trip to Red rock Canyon or similar?
4) Where is the best place to get a good view of Vegas at night? Stratosphere / Eiffel Tower or the High Roller?
5) Are there any good sunrise views from the strip? or just off strip?
6) Are there any poker rooms that are tourest friendly? ie not full of good players wearing headphones
7) Any good tips for cheap and cheerful brekkie near the Bellagio?
Sorry, only planned to ask a couple and I kept thinking of new ones.
Thanks0 -
Let's see what I can answer out of those.
1) How much are you looking at for a buffet mid strip
Breakfasts $15 to $25 including tax, Dinner $30 to $50 plus including tax. Consider some groupons etc - Spice Market, Caesars are often on there for a good price. Also consider myvegas even if you manage to get some 2/1 offers on there.
2) If you are not somebody that eats masses of food, is it better value to get a sandwich for lunch and dinner? Im guessing US sandwiches will be large
Yes, sandwiches will be large I think. We sometimes get a subway. Not that often though. We're more likely to grab a slice of pizza. Earl of Sandwich is supposed to be good, not tried it though.
3) Are there any places on the strip to book an ad hoc trip to Red rock Canyon or similar?
No chance of hiring a car? There used to be 'Scoot Tours' in mini cars out there in the state park. It's a tour but you drive a little buggy type thing. I'm sure there must be trips, but we hire a car so I'm not that sure.
4) Where is the best place to get a good view of Vegas at night? Stratosphere / Eiffel Tower or the High Roller?
High Roller. Stratosphere. Rio Voodoo Lounge. Stratosphere you can go up to the lounge and do happy hour and avoid the fee for the tower.
5) Are there any good sunrise views from the strip? or just off strip? Can't think of any. Usually sleeping (well or jetlagged!). You'd be facing out to the East which isn't the more exciting landscape. I bet Valley of Fire would be nice in the morning though. Red Rock Canyon is nice then too (and not too hot if you go early).
6) Are there any poker rooms that are tourest friendly? ie not full of good players wearing headphones
I have no idea!
7) Any good tips for cheap and cheerful brekkie near the Bellagio? I can't think of anything cheap near there. Again maybe a groupon for a buffet. There are a couple of Denny's on the strip as well. Or McDonald's, or any food court maybe? We don't tend to eat breakfasts like that as we're veggie. We either go for a nice buffet, or have something in the room (if we've got a fridge and toaster).0 -
The food courts are much better value than the posh restaurants.
For breakfasts, the Carl's Jr fast food chain does "biscuits", which are scones cut in half with a choice of fillings such as egg, cheese, ham, etc. Good value and delicious.

Thanks lesley74, really good info there.
Was considering hiring a car, but im not too concerned about going off strip. Plus I will be having a fair amount to drink of an evening so probably not wise to be driving during the day.0 -
Breakfast for us is just porridge / oatmeal and a coffee, and then overload at buffet on a evening. Sometimes we might go just before change over if we are hungry early, eg pay for lunch but have the dinner selection.
Earl of Sandwiches is great, and should be included in my list of things we do every trip.
View from the Foundation Room is worth a look.0
