wrong delivery method

I'm furious!

I bid and won on an item and delivery method said Royal Mail First Class.

I've just had a message from the seller that my parcel is being delivered by myHermes!

myHermes is not mentioned anywhere in the listing and I've had so much trouble with this delivery company that I wouldn't have bid on the item if I'd known the seller would be using them.

I'm really busy over the next few days and fully expected to have pop down to my local RM Sorting Office to pick the parcel up & was happy with that arrangement.

Now I've got no bloody idea when it's going to turn up, highly unlikely that anybody will be about to take it in and it will probably end up going back to the depot!

Same happened here. MyHermes took a week compared to Royal Mail First Class and like you I was hoping to collect from RM sorting office. MyHermes actually delivered it when I was in on a Saturday after 2 failed attempts (ours is a man in a private car rather than delivery van).

I'm currently the opposite... I'm waiting for a parcel sent via RM, a week on (first class) yet I sent a MyHermes parcel to my friend and he got it in 2 days. Still says out for delivery though, but he told me he got it lol

It's not the difference between different delivery providers that's the issue here.

It's that I bought an item expecting it to be delivered by the method stated in the listing i.e. Royal Mail but it's being delivered by Hermes - which is a totally inconvenient method of delivery for me.

Is it because they don't turn up? I can't order from Amazon, for this reason... no parcels ever turn up from their "logistics company"... or because they come at silly times? Myhermes are delivering on Sundays now too.

It's because they delivered a parcel to my neighbours even though I was sat in my front room with the curatins open and the light on - they didn't even bother to knock on my door.
We both have house numbers clearly displayed.

It's because they don't have a local depot you can go to pick up missed deliveries - unlike Royal Mail - and I don't want to (and sometimes can't) wait in.

It's because the listing said Royal Mail - not Hermes - and that's the contract I have with the seller.
  • Yeah I've been there, I've been waiting for a delivery and even RM didn't knock, they slammed a card through the door, I chased him down the road.

I'm not sure what to suggest apart from messaging the seller and saying you're not happy since it was stated RM. Explain you've had issues with MyHermes. But chances are delivery has been paid for and it's been dropped off by now.

MyHermes will redeliver if you call the number on the card, I know our local lady puts her mobile number, but I'm sure they're not all as helpful.

Yes very annoying. I think buyers like this probably throw the listing together really quickly without knowing the postage then either discover the post is going to cost more than they thought or just decide to do it on the cheap.
This is not a good time of year to be messing people about.
Possibly they don't understand about my hermes having no collection depot .

If they can't be a**sed to find out the cost of posting before listing an item, they should take the hit of the higher postage cost instead of doing what is cheaper/more convenient for them rather than what they've agreed with their customer.

Have you contacted the seller to point this out? I send most non-large letter items by My Hermes. The tracking that Royal Mail does not provide has virtually cut out INR cases. I do offer a load of different Royal Mail services at extra cost. However it is not always clear from invoices when you print them out through sales manager which method of postage is needed.

I have a couple of times nearly sent by Hermes when they paid for Royal Mail. One time it was only the buyer getting in touch when I told them it was being sent by My Hermes that I managed to stop it going that way and send by Royal Mail which they paid for.

So really I'd get in touch with the seller first. It may be a genuine mistake. If it was me and I had done this, then I would be refunding your total postage charge as an apology. If the buyer does not respond or is not apologetic then I'd leave suitable feedback.

    Hi
Thanks - yes I have contacted the seller.

I received the email yesterday at 5pm & emailed them this morning as soon as I read it.

The email from them said my parcel was being sent by Hermes and gave a tracking number.
I've clicked on it this morning and there's no information at all - it doesn't even say it has been collected by the courier so I'm hoping that I've picked this up in sufficient time for them to change the delivery method.

In my 10 years of buying on eBay I've never left negative feedback before but I'll be having a good think about doing so if this delivery is cocked up.
