Drama over - in the end I didn't need to do anything anyway.
Someone from another team who was Christmas shopping also saw her leave early and has brought to the attention of the T/L. Lass has had a chat with HR and has been sent home.
As expected we have been advised that flexworking has been cancelled with no expected date for return. There are a lot of upset people in the office today.
Why is there always one that ruins it for everyone else. Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -

Which is what you were contemplating doing?
My sympathy is with the woman who has just been suspended a week before Christmas. I hope you and your colleague are proud0 -
I am not responsible for her actions. She left early - I didn't.
Her actions, not mine and not the other team members have brought this about.
My post was to try and find a way to put a check or balance in place without making waves so it couldn't happen again and protect everyone who flex worked. However as it happened I didn't get the chance.
Her choices have affected 12 people (me included!) - who enjoyed the benefits of flex working. She will get the opportunity to advise why she chose to do what she did, and I imagine she will get a warning.
The 12 people who worked really hard to get flex agreed and the T/L who trusted us will not get the opportunity again. So, though I am not 'proud of myself' I am not ashamed either.
I feel more sorry for the 12 people who will have to go back to a set 9-5 and lose the flexibility that we have all been enjoying. Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -
What harm would it have done to turn a blind eye this once?
The person that snitched is the one that has lost your flexitime rights, and quite possibly this lady her job. What a vindictive thing to do.0 -
After having a strict department ‘overlord’ who has been promoted and we now have a lovely new manager who is more amenable and pro staff.
He has managed to successfully prove and demonstrate that flexible working is great for us and great for the company. All good and the team are absolutely loving it. It makes everyone’s lives so much easier and productive. It’s all very new and fragile as the ‘overlord’ is really not keen.
However here lies the rub. My co-worker took a flex shift and came in at 10 and due to leave at 1800 last night. I was caught up in town and as was driving home I got stuck at the red light in front of the building. I could have sworn I saw her leaving 20 mins before the end of her shift time. We don’t log in or out and the lines switch off at 1700 so if you work a late its basically on a honour system.
If I report this I KNOW the overlord will pull flexible working faster than the speed of light and this will really upset everyone. Add to this that no one will be able to prove one way of another if the Lass left early and she will argue she didn’t….. so the person that ‘dobbed’ her in will be in the firing line for killing flexworking. However if I don’t say something I this lass will continue to take the mickey. I have been asked to help with her work load today which would have been cleared…. If she had stayed till 1800!
What I would like to do is have a quiet word and have a rule in place that an email needs to be sent to the T/L on checking out at 1800 to protect everyone’s flexi working (or something similar). But if I even bring it up I know the T/L will want to know why suddenly I want to make changes.. he’s not stupid and if I use the ‘clarity and accountability to the rest of the business’ excuse he is going to see right through it and bang that’s the end of flexiworking.
Just to add to the issue the Lass in question has just broken down at her desk and has been swept up and away by HR to have a chat. So do I cut her some slack as she seems to have things going on at the moment?
Any ideas?“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

Isn't that a bit like blaming the policeman for arresting the criminal?
Actually the person who lost them their flexitime was the employee who broke the rules. Had they behaved correctly there would have been nothing to report!
Don't get me wrong, I understand where you are coming from but I think you are rather overstating it!0 -
It all sounds like quite a lot of drama for leaving 20 mins early. If this person has been suspended for leaving 20 mins early then I'm a bit surprised. Told off and asked to work it back would be more sensible. Perhaps stopped from working flexi if it was deliberately dishonest.
However, it's a pretty awful that at least 2 people out of such a small department were so keen to get in and tell tales without knowing what went on. She could have got permission, could have had an emergency. It's still possible it was an emergency she didn't want to discuss (women's troubles, or something similarly embarrassing).
While I don't think it's right when people take the pi55, you have to be careful of interfering too.0 -
I don't think she did intend to ruin this for all. Perhaps she was dealing with other issues and left early once. No excuse but your company also overreacted in my opinion. There are tons of benefits of flexible working both for the company and the employee.
When a decision is being made, pros and cons should be weighed and if it brings more benefit than it will be still viable.ally.0 -
To be fair, if there's a trust arrangement in place for something as useful as flexitime I'd find it really annoying if someone risked that arrangement by taking the mick for personal gain.
It's all very well pointing the finger at someone who may raise it being a 'grass' but the individual is essentially being paid to do their Christmas shopping off the back of their boss's goodwill.
I wouldn't raise it myself, I am a firm believer that if you give an idiot enough rope they'll hang themselves but I'm also a believer that if you dig a hole for the next man you will fall in.0
