Can disabled people park in parent and child spaces?

I disagree- if a stranger was verbally abusing me to the degree the OP is claiming I'd have no problem getting the police involved .
Unless the person has consent from me or authority from the state, then they have no reason to tell me off, and I wouldn't get into dialogue with them.
I remember a couple trying to give me some for parking in a P&C, told them to goto customer services if they didn't like it.0 -
By brother got a load of abuse for using a P&C parking space with my then 4 year old nephew.
It seems that some people think it's "mother and child" parking, due to the marking painted out on the ground..... But can you imagine the uproar if they marked the parent out as a man?
I think some areas have now started changing the markings to show both parents.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

It's parent and child though not parents and child, the supermarkets only need have an aisle of parking for P&C or BB not necessarily the ones closest to the store, or better yet all the spaces reasonable width, I only stopped using the P&C at my local as they have notices up regarding PCN, now I just choose carefully the times when I visit .
I just hate when I park far from the store to avoid dings and someone still comes and park right next to me0 -
Unless adopted under the Disabled Persons' Parking Places (Scotland) Act 2009
There are very, very few of them in the general private parking context - No more than a handful of stores across the entire country. IIRC we have only identified one supermarket in Lanarkshire and a row of shops in Falkirk from posts on the parking board.
The vast majority of these spaces have been created in private residential car parks, where the scheme has proved pretty successful.0 -
How many of them might there be, and how does one recognize them?
They are to all intents and purposes a legit/council operated space.
Signs and markings have to be up to to TSRGD Scotland (fractional differences from TSRGD E&W) specification and tickets issued are proper council ones with the same appeal process. No shonky PPCs involved.
There must also be a properly issued TRO in force and legal wayleave established for council patrollers to access the space - and the TRO at least will be verifiable online/at council offices.0 -

Probably the same places that put the baby change in the ladies toilet.0 -
Thanks all.
It's Washington Galleries in the North East where they shop. Sainsburys is on the end of a shopping mall with the usual high street shops and services like banks, hairdressers etc. There's also the health centre, leisure centre and restaurants there, so the car parks are always fairly busy during the day. They usually go shopping around 3-4pm as there seems to be a lull then, but if Dad has a medical appointment they have to go there at other times.
They do need the extra space and they have a blue badge. Dad had a stroke and is paralysed down the left side. He's got a bigger than normal wheelchair as it's all built up to keep him supported and upright. They need the extra space at the end of the space to let the ramp down to get him in and out the car, then Mam needs to be able to get in each side door and bend down to the floor to put shackle things round the front wheels to keep the wheelchair secure in the car.
He can't be left for the length of time it takes to do a weekly shop as he can't go to the toilet by himself, he starts to slide over to the left so we have to keep propping him back up and he's clumsy so he knocks drinks over. He's ok being left while she nips to the corner shop for odds and ends, but she doesn't feel comfortable leaving him for longer than about 15 minutes. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Strange debate this one.
Should Disabled people be allowed to park in P&C spaces, if no disabled spaces are free? Yes.
Should any selfish fool who wishes to park in the P&C be able to do so? No.
On a side note, with reference to Parents with Children parking far away because the "walk would do them good".... Are all parents fat/unhealthy nowadays? What's wrong with customers without kids walking, cos it'll do them good too!
Anyway, I am a parent, I use the P&C spaces, if they are full I park somewhere else. would I have a go at a disabled person for using a space. No, it's called not being an a***hole.Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....0 -

Putting them elsewhere will not inconvenience those who genuinely benefit from the space, but will naturally reduce the abuse of them by those too lazy to walk any further than the bare minimum.0 -

You as well?
I thought it was just me that "they" were after.
Still, if I'm not there, I suppose they have to pick on someone else.....;)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)
