After years of being just a normal 'parker', I am now experiencing ~some~ of the frustrations disabled people must feel.

I have hybrid vehicle that can be electrically charged, there are special bays with chargers at most services and probably to reduce cost of heavy cables they are often right outside the services door, even nearer than the disabled spots.

So you can guess they attract all the usual lazy souls that are perfectly able but need to save 10 yards on the way to getting the next portion of KFC, or the sales reps who think their precious cars will be dinged unless in an 30 foot exclusion zone and so on.

Despite being heavily hatched, signed and warnings of £100 penalty for improper use they still do it, there are only 2 special spaces typically and I need it, the cable isn't long enough to reach a normal bay!!

I share this frustration, but as a hybrid driver you do have the option of using fossil fuel. Unfortunately, whenever I reach a services in my pure EV, there's normally an Outlander PHEV in the spaces, topping up its tiny battery for half an hour or more, leaving those of us who actually do *need* the electrons, and hence the space, to wait.

big assumption there! do you know me? do you know what i have done for my Country and local community? NO, you don't.
We can only go by what you've told us...

That you feel no shame in using multiple parking spaces, disabled spaces, and parent/child spaces because you like to own a big expensive car.

If you think that casts you in a poor light, unfairly, then so be it. But it is your actions and choices, and your actions and choices alone, by which you bring that on yourself.

Oh your one of 'those'! yes I can use fuel but that would be stupid if there is a charge available and even if it only gets me 20 miles with my tiny battery if it doubles my average mpg on a 40 mile trip then its still caused less pollution and saved money. My PHEV works for its living and I wouldn't get my gear in a Leaf. By the way my charges typically take 19-20 minutes tops.

You need to get off your high horse and wait your turn like anyone else.

Is there any need for insults? I didn't know you were driving an Outlander PHEV. I don't take notes of every car driven by every user on the motoring board. You know nothing of the circumstances of my EV use - I work for a living as well you know. I don't drive a Leaf, either.

Your charges may take 20 minutes, and perhaps you're one of the rare few who actually move on when their charge is complete, but I was referring to the majority, who seem happy to block in the charging points for 30-45 minutes at a time, or, as I have seen many times, not even charge at all, but just use the space because of the fact they feel entitled by driving a plug-in hybrid.

My parents went shopping at a Sainsburys store but all the disabled spaces were full. They did wait a few minutes but nobody came back, so they parked in a parent and child space.

As my Mam got out of the car, another car pulled into the space next to her. The lady got out and abruptly asked my Mam where her child was. My Mam pointed to all the full disabled spaces and said she had to park here as they need the extra room. The lady then became abusive and screamed obscenities at my Mam for parking there without a child leaving my Mam very shaken up and my Dad upset as he was still in the car and felt helpless.

Just wondering for future reference, can they park in parent and child spaces if all the disabled ones are full?

I know you can in tesco

Well I am sorry if I came across as making insults. You did come across as one of the pure EV drivers who look down on a PHEV for having an engine and think they should never charge which is unfair.

And yes some PHEV drivers use the spaces irresponsibly, but being the best selling plug in vehicle by far the proportion of idiots in them will inevitably be higher, but it annoys other PHEV drivers as much as EV drivers. Of course other EV drivers block too.

I came across as some kind of puritanical EV driver from one post? Way to jump to a conclusion, chum.

Know why I drive an EV? Because it costs me £0 a month to fuel for all of my commuting and work usage. The saving on fuel allows me to justify my stupid gas-guzzling jeep, a motorhome, a motorbike, and several other toys. I do not look down on things with engines. Far from it.

So I love to hog child spaces now. Gives me great pleasure. Maybe the fat thug will confront me next.

Dear God I hope so.

    .

That is why I take great pleasure in parking in child spaces, just to irk them a bit.

Watch out everyone, there is a keyboard warrior who is threatening "fat thugs" with "short thrift".

If I saw you parked in one of these P&C spaces with no disabled badge and no children, I would happily block you in. Then you can happily give me short thrift, but be aware I am not a fat or a thug.

You attitude of selfishness, by parking where you want, when you want is so ridiculous you can't even see it yourself.

Whilst I entirely support your sentiments and agree that the 'keyboard warrior' is an !!!, by threatening to block someone in simply for being in a P&C space without a Blue Badge you are reducing your self to their level.

Blocking anyone in is easily sorted out by the blocked in person phoning for police assistance - which they will definitely get if they mention the magic words 'road rage' and that they are 'in fear' of the person blocking them.

You will then find that the situation has been totally reversed and you will be on the receiving end of a lecture, not the thoughtless parker.

Do not react to acts of stupidity and selfishness - there is little that you can do about it unfortunately without being seen to overreact.
