    I remember when my Brother got accused of shoplifting when buying me a Birthday present (this is going back 10 Years), a security guard stopped him and called him into the back office, where they searched his bags and found nothing but his purchased goods with receipt.
    A security guard has no right to search you or your bags, only a Police Officer is legally allowed to do this. You can give the Security Officer permission to search your bags but you can also demand they call the police and if they refuse they have to let you go.

    If you include pressing the supplied quote button in that I do agree!

    Do you really need to go to a Police Office? Where in the UK are you talking about? Are the laws different dependant on where you live? ~Scotland, NI, Wales...or the rest?

    Why did YOU not see it then? It irks me when people do not read their own posts and realise the glaring typos they have posted...especially when they are complaining about others making mistakes!

    My guess is;

    - because he's writing a public forum post and not a final year university dissertation.

    On a side note but it was easy to infer meaning from their post. A Police Office, for example, is not physically able to search a bag. Also, the user has a peculiar writing style with proper nouns, mentioning the "Security Officer". I'm surprised that you were so confused when an 'r' was accidentally omitted!

    I think only the police can make you open your bag to search,or search you (Only if they suspect a crime).I think store security can ask you to open your bag etc but cannot force you.
