    Most people have a 3G/4G(LTE) capable phone that days anyway.

    True, they've left some 'optimised' 2G for M2M (automated system access) but they had limited coverage to start with (compared with AT&T) and already re-farmed large chunks over to 3G/4G.

    I roamed onto AT&T and Union Wireless (a regional network) almost exclusively except in NYC & Florida.
