Based on some six years experience on this board I had formed the impression that the general rule here was that we attempt to assist people. For all of that time I have offered suggestions, advice based on my experience and encouragement to see issues through to posters who have fallen foul of (in the case of this particular board) what others interpret as the law.
I am truly sorry and humbly apologise. Clearly I was wrong and I must be vilified, belittled and preached at because of the conduct I now admit to. This is a completely unfamiliar position and it would be really helpful if posters could offer me advice on how to deal with the situation and what might happen as a result. My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).
For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -

We are all told on every page that this is an open forum and anyone can post in it.
If you only want to read from posters with a like mind to yourself then this is not the place for you.0 -

If you don't have the mental capacity to drive properly, pay attention to the road AND your speed then you shouldnt be driving. [/QUOTE]
Though the speed is set by law, knowing your speed to the nearest 5 mph is not the big issue. It is simply the implication of that speed for stopping distances, ability to dodge hazards and not frighten or intimidate other road users into making mistakes. You should know roughly what sort of space you can react in for a given speed you're travelling at and on a given road surface and weather - and being able to judge that visually is a much more important skill than being able to judge whether the absolute speed you're driving at is 70 or 75 - or 90 or 100.
As your fellow road user I really don't care if you're doing 70 or 75 or 90 if you're not tailgating or getting in someone's way or driving like a [common parlance for rooster].
If someone is doing 75mph in the middle lane you shouldn't blast past them a few feet between your left wing mirror and their right with a 25mph speed differential, not because of the absolute number of miles an hour on your speedo being 3 digits or 2 digits but because of the potential danger if something goes wrong (including if someone is surprised by your actions even if you don't hit them).
By contrast if they are in the far left lane at 70 and you are in the far right lane at 95 with no other traffic around then the scenario is safer, not so much because of the marginally lower speed on your speedo that needs 50ft (or whatever) less stopping distance but because there is a much lower possibility of an accident or the slower driver being freaked out.
I've been cruising along at 130odd in Germany and felt more comfortable than at much lower speeds in the UK sometimes simply because a lot of the autobahn users have meticulous lane discipline and there is nobody surprising the other road users because everyone expects there to be a guy at 200kph in the fast lane from time to time.
It is a flawed system that picks an arbitrary speed limit for a ban or fine rather than the quality of driving. However, it is inherently much more measurable / quantifiable than other factors and correlates with accident damage, making it the most practical way of catching people who might cause bad accidents. However, IMHO an instant ban for an arbitrary speed is harsh, if it is 3am on an empty motorway on Christmas morning.0 -
Well bully for you!
I wonder why this forum constantly attracts people with this smug, self-righteous attitude? It's clearly a magnet for those who just love rubbing the noses of others in the proverbial.
Bully for me indeed. I most certainly am a "smug and self-righteous" driver who sticks to the speed limits, or less if needs be, because I don't want to cause or be part of an accident as far as possible. I absolutely will inflict it on others whose apparent attitude indicates they aren't sorry they were driving recklessly (not realising you're doing 100+ is reckless IMHO) because I don't want to be caught up in an accident they have caused when they do it again.
I appreciate the OP has come back and said he didn't realise his speed, that it was a momentary lapse, but 30mph over the limit is a lot not to notice even in a powerful car. Hopefully this incident and whatever punishment comes out of it will be sufficient to make the OP a lot more aware of his speed in future.0 -
100 mph is a bit much on a busy duel carriageway. How many vehicles did you overtake to achieve that speed before pulling in ? Maybe the other drivers knew that the Police vehicle was among them, so drove at the correct speed. There is always a reason for vehicles driving slowly. It was obviously dark as you couldn't identify the Police vehicle behind, other than seeing headlights. It's not about the way you drive but realising/anticipating what others are about to do. If one of the vehicles you were passing decided to 'go for it' as well, could you have avoided a collision ? I'm not preaching to you - just trying to make you 'aware'.
If you had been a bit more 'quick thinking' you could have told the off's that you were aware that they were behind you and wanted to get out of their way to allow them free passage, as the speed they were travelling at, it was obviously an emergency :rotfl:0 -

You really need to look for somewhere else other than this forum. Twitter would probably accommodate you.0 -
Just ignore the posts/replies you don't like.We are all told on every page that this is an open forum and anyone can post in it.If you only want to read from posters with a like mind to yourself then this is not the place for you.
However, I usually choose not to post what might otherwise be somewhat argumentative or unhelpful in exactly the same way as others choose to do the opposite - from my standpoint - but that is what liberty is about. Having a richness of debate is what I suspect draws us all back here unless I am delusional in that respect as well.
But then I thought that is what your argument usually was?My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).

Why not? I read all manner of posts including those that I do not necessarily agree with - including many of yours.....
I gave you some (note that I am the only one who has done so - everyone else has ignored your cry for help)
Don't shoot me for at least trying to give you a way out of your feelings of unworthiness here:....I am truly sorry and humbly apologise. @Q - you don't come here often enough if you thought HO87 really needed any help.
You're tangling with the wrong guy! :cool:Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
