Sometimes what you want is a hug and a nice word of comfort when what you actually need and get is a swift boot up the bum. My Dad's done that a few times and it's always worked out well

    Totally agree mrsp

Sometime a blunt statement says very little but really says so much

  • Meant to say in my post that my DH has a diagnosis now - we paid to go privately and it was so worth the money. With a 1 hour appointment we had 2 potential diagnoses and within a few weeks we knew which it was as 1 of the diagnoses only reacts to a specific medication. His type of headache is quite rare and has very specific symptoms so it annoys me no end that in 5 years the NHS did not work this out.

DH is much better, during good times his head pain is virtually non existent, we have to be careful of too much noise, light, concentration etc but other than that we carry on with life. His brain fog and forgetfulness is a nightmare still, he cannot be trusted with anything which involves cooking or his medication - he literally cannot remember 30mins after taking his tablets if he has taken them or not - hence I prepare his tablets in dosset boxes with days on them so I can tell at a glance if he has taken them.

YNAB - I use this and have done for quite some time.
I don't do it the 'proper' way either - my problem is that I have loads of different accounts for income and savings and YNAB is all about having just 1 account which I can't get my head round.
DH and I have separate accounts as we have separate finances which makes YNAB even more interesting.
I have accounts on budget and off budget.
Luckily DH and I are paid nearly at the same time every month and apart from Child Benefit we have no other income during the month so I can prepare my budget and allocate all my money on the 1st of each month (CB comes in and gets stashed in a savings account until DD needs it so it's quite an easy transaction). I am not sure how I would cope with multiple incomes during the month.

I think I have been using it for nearly a year now and 'my' way works for me so I will continue like this until I feel I am ready to have all my income/outgoings/savings all in one account. When I am ready I will have to buy the new version of YNAB as I don't want to get rid of the statistics I currently have.

As well as YNAB I also use a printed out spreadsheet which I tick off each month as I transfer money to savings etc - I prefer a visual aid rather than flicking from one screen to another. of course if I followed YNAB 'properly' I wouldn't have that issue as everything stays in one account.

Sorry, went off on a tangent there - if I didn't answer the question you asked, which I probably didn't, ask me again!!!?!?!?

I really do not blame you for seeking help outside the NHS, it's not right but you and he has to live your life not them. I do hope he has more good days than bad

No no no on the contrary it was as I was reading the last bit the penny dropped, I was so caught up with trying "to do it right" I missed how it worked for me, which was how I originally saw it and did it. Put all the expenses in at the beginning of the month so it is well in the red and semi-panic about not having enough to cover it all, THAT makes me frugal :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: So massive thanks

I am on the new version, in the trial period so will have to pay for it soon BUT I do think it's so worth the money :T:T:T

Well the Cobbler went down a treat, except OH wanted to know what spices were in it :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: none after 28 years I know not to :D:D (Lentils were not noticed :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:)

Decided to batch cook a bit more, so this saturday I think it will be quiche and I found, on faceache, a recipe for pizza dough............ flour and greek yoghurt!!! very simple. Now OH doesn't like shop bought pizza (too spicy) so homemade is perfect :D:D

YNAB, thanks to Eager Elephant I have seen the light and am reverting back to how I started using it a couple of weeks ago, it's not quite as it's intended but must work for me as I squashed my overdraft in a couple of weeks, since trying to do it how they do it, it seems to have been mixed up, although I think that maybe putting in your months expenses in one go could be the correct way to do it anyway, just don't put in income till it arrives.

Sent my phone off yesterday to one of those companies so hopefully will get about £30 for it. OH phone is another matter should get £100 for that but he is soooooo funny, if he gets wind of it he will declare it's his :mad::mad: I ask you like I keep my money to myself, this attitude does make me mega :mad::mad:

Mouse tally, caught no 3 this morning I don't think they are living in the house because if they were it would be a mouse a night so hopefully we are nipping it in the bud so to speak. :T

  • I've not used YNAB. did think about it,, but TBH I know I wouldn't keep it up. I ignore things like spending diaries, probably pretending I haven't spent it.

I have become quite "tight" with the little things, them blow the biggies;)

I pay every one and everything first, pay myself my spends (including food and petrol) about £200. I'm aware of how much I spend but this is the only place I record it. I try to keep it less than that and not dip too much into savings,,,, but generally , like this week, l've taken some cash for new bedding for DD2 :D

It's more an account balance tracking tool rather than a spend diary, so a replacement for those spreadsheets :D:D

I have to say I ditched spreadsheets within 24 hours of using it.

The app is the best bit, I used to find it difficult to keep track of my balance at the weekend, only because OH would stick his nose in and it would be a inquisition plus a geriatric laptop made loading spreadsheets impossible, so come monday morning it was always a bit of a :eek:

This means I can log the spend immediately :T:T:T

    Fenroads (soap drama ep2)

Just checking EE bill and noticed a £9 charge on OH phone !!!! Upon googling, it turns out to be a very dodgy company peddling films of a certain nature. It turns out OH friend sent him a link via faceache...................he clicked on it (coz it had come from his likkle friend DOH!!!!) Lots of pop ups later, he gets a text saying he will be charged £9 a month for his subscription and to text STOP if he doesnt want to, so panic panic he texts STOP...........the naughty little b*ggers charged him, so in steps the big guns (me) speaks to EE gets it stopped and charges dropped...................it was fraud after all

Watch it out there peeps, wolves try and steal your money from everywhere :mad::mad:

    Morning All :D:D:D

    Well today I have OP'd £7.45 :D:D:D:D

In other news........OH has been underpaid, not what is going on till I get home and check his hours additions and see his time sheet but it looks like 5 hours :mad: Rest assured I WILL shout if it's wrong, mainly because we are very careful not to claim time when it's not earnt, in fact we are the opposite. Lots of his fellow workers have had hours deducted recently because they were stopping at teatime for 30 mins but my OH barely stops for lunch so I won't stand for it plus they would not let him have the day off for my 50th and gave him the next day off when I was at a fair................so they are on dodgy ground at the moment. He asked for next saturday off for DD coming home and they went mental.............:mad::mad:

Been looking at the budget for October and :eek::eek: some categories are way out of control, the biggest culprit is food as per usual but I think I will have all meals organised for November at this rate :T:T:T:T

On the making extra cash front the EE upgrade has been confirmed by TCB and I am waiting to hear about my phone I sent in and OH phone will be sent monday. Potentially it's about £230 extra.

YNAB, I felt much better this am looking at it, despite having a big red ticket for November to the tune of £1,900 but as expected income for the month is £3,575 that should leave a surplus of £1,675!!!! I am determined to keep that money :money:
