To me food is like breast feeding (apologisd for the pun non intended lolol)

I feel so inadequate in these groups its like a sin to eat well, the cheaper the naffer the better is what comes across on faceache. Its great for receipes but most of the time its makes me feels how those midwives did years ago.......a failure.

I made casserole today and meatloaf so thats great BUT the real hit was banana ice cream!!! WOW just blitz bananas add summer fruit and freeze its amazing without any extra sugar as well
I agree. I've found eating a high protein good food diet with no sugar works for me. So long as I don't waste food I'm happy. The ice cream sounds fab. I make mine by blitzing bananas and yoghurt and freezing. Yummy.

More on the food. Reading this thread has made me think of my stepfather. Before he met my mum he had an idea to start a business. He was on benefits. The only place he could save money was his food so he lived on baked beans, tinned peaches and cheap bread. That seriously was his diet. He bought and sold stuff with the left over cash and made money. He was successful. If one really has to save money and its a desperate need then fair enough - but - actually its much better for your health and the rest of us who pay taxes if you do eat well (cos you save the NHS money in the long run I reckon :) )

  • I agree totally with Karmacat and Watty1, its always about the trade off between price and quality, There are just some items I will not compromise on and others that wouldn't bother me if it was the cheaper variety, once i've tried and tested them, of course.

Do what you feel comfortable with, but I never knock the cheaper variety of items until tried. As I tell myself, well I don't do this or that so can afford to treat myself, and when you think about it, good quality food will still be cheaper (hopefully) than a meal out or carry out :D

Well today has got off to carp start.

Forgot to do OH lunch for today :(:(

Got to work and found I was supposed to email a client 2 weeks ago and had forgot :(:(

Had another email from client moaning the cost of their VAT :(:(

Don't you just luvvvvv Mondays :D

On the good news front listed on fleabay on saturday and have one bid so far, it will not buy me a luxury cruise but it's a start :T:T

Yesterday we went to the coast, OH suggestion to see the sand racing, it was great................spends £2 on car parking :eek: how good is that :D:D:D OH feels better for it, getting out and about, he even didn't mind the no lunch.

DD had a mini crisis last night, her fryer packed up but it was all sorted in a jiffy, just wished she wouldn't panic or get sooooo het up, mind you she is her fathers daughter !!!!

Got to face mum at lunch, with OH being off we, yet again, didn't carboot and I know I will be facing a nasty comment followed by a "might as well chuck the stuff I have because we won't get to do one" she's great now (years ago she was evil) but it's so hard because when they are retired they get a bl**dy bee in there bonnet and the attitude is you should drop everything for them but everyone else shouldn't demand things off you, in fact that is the attitude of all of them, don't do stuff for others as long as you do stuff for me :mad:

  • Well done on OP!

    Well done on batch cooking!

Well done on having a nice day out!

Tell Monday to go and do one...I don't like them either.

I like to eat well and I usually cook from scratch - you will find that with batch cooking that your time will be better spent (once it's done) and that the bill will reduce! But as KC and watty said! You don't have to compromise on quality - I certainly don't. Well done you!

Thanks just got my 3rd carp email of the morning :mad: am sure it's a conspiracy :rotfl::rotfl:

I hope the batch cooking pays off, I think I have enough meals for the month :D:D

The day out was a stark reminder that years of debt has imprinted on our brain, all I could keep going on about was how cheap the parking was, am sure OH thought I was nuts but funny thing is all he could keep saying was that it was free to watch.................we are so not used to treating ourselves in any way............how did it get to this :cry:

But instead of feeling down about it, you could realise that your standard of living doesn't actually depend on spending money, certainly not 100% of the time. You have things available to you, free of charge, that are actually enjoyable! Thats :j:j:j and you need *more* of them, not less

Oh dear sorry I wasn't really down :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: well not big style, well only a little

There are a couple of things that struck home, how much OH had improved that way, we never went anywhere before because OH refused unless we had money and not just a few quid, he always saw going somewhere free was a poor mans habit, it's a bit like food that way, you scrimp and it means you have no money.........lost count of the number of times I have tried to say that's how people get rich/wealthy :D I can buy YS treats but anything else is seen as "we are poor" The ironic thing is that is a poor mans attitude, you cannot be seen to be poor, if you get my drift. A good example is my neighbour, he has built an extension and is improving his home so much, new kitchen etc. My OH is always saying how do they afford it and I keep saying they sell stuff on fleabay, buy second hand on fleabay. He doesn't believe me says no way they would earn enough. Trouble is I sell on fleabay and he says "are we that hard up"

From my point I have always known there were things out there you could do for free but this was the first time doing something really didn't cost us anything other than £2 so it was a revelation. Usually OH wants to spend money :(

You are right Karma we so need to do more of the same :T

On the fleabay front I now have a few watchers and can you remember the handbag saga (broken bag, company refusing to reply to me) well I am contemplating selling the 3 I have. To be honest I have not used them since the incident I though I would, convinced myself I would but my heart is just not in it, they no longer spark joy :(:( So am thinking of fleabaying them.............ine sold for £40 the other day!!!

Have just been reading and seen quite a few November goals, so though I would give it a try

1.) Keep to allocated food budget (have meals for the month so should be doable she coughs)
2.) Fleabay at least one item per week
3.) Kitchen, having started a partial revamp, I must finish this, cost so far £200 :j
    4.) Overpayments, aiming for £50, not a lot but a £1 is a £1
5.) Have one day out with OH
    6.) Stick to diet ;)
