We're a bit off as I had an awful gastric flu last week so spent nothing with the hubby living off cheese / eggs, toast and sandwiches with things in the fridge. At the end of it I craved Chinese food so we spent £16.89 on that. It lasted for a few days too!
This week the shopping has cost £48.73 this includes a trip to the butchers, fishmongers and *ldi for fresh produce, dairy etc
So far I'm under budget. However it's the hubby's birthday tomorrow and I feel a meal out is in order.
This is week 3 for me out of a short 5 and there's still plenty in stock, though I am running out of spices, herbs, soy sauce etc. A trip to the Asian supermarket in the city is long overdue.0 -
We had HM beef chilli today -. Don't know how many portions but loads left and cooling atm. Will have to fridge and portion/freeze the morrow when cold
There was 5x2 good portions to freeze today :j
Sorted chest freezer today so know exactly what is in there and need to do the up-right the morrow, moving some stuff over to make room for the chilli :rotfl:
Sorted other freezer. I have some white carrier bags so have 'parcelled' HM and frozen meals into these and labelled them. Now in basket in bottom of chest freezer and easy to find
Lx
We had HM Spicy beef, beans and veggie stew today (DH had garlic bread with his).
Made it with two lo ends of beef stew (freezer), tin of mixed bean salad (stock), lo 1/2 tin of peas and some lo new pots from yesterday - added some pepper, garlic powder and chilli powder and it was loverlyLeft-overs in freezer - will add a tetra of tomato passata to make soup another time
NSD here again today :j
Hope you all have a winning Wednesday

£36.04 spend yesterday in Tesco, we should have enough in now to last us until at least the end of this week if not the weekend. Brings the total up to £152.08 so we are on track for the end of the month if we are careful! I do need to check with DH if he has been 'popping out' for things during the week though...Savings target: £25000/£25000

So far under budget this month, it's astounding! I've shopped from the freezer and store cupboards, bulk cooked and used up everything leftover from Christmas (clearly there was a lot), and I've treated my DS to a takeaway pizza (with a discount code of course!) for getting his first UCAS offer! Very pleased though - have just been buying bits from Aldeee and Mr T to make meals. Will do a freezer big shop in February from Mr O.3-6 month EF Challenge Member #19: £3590/£6000.[/B] Craft destash from 22.5.22: 46/200. Hi, I think this is my first post on a GC thread. I know I am late to the game for January, but having ignored my finances for the last year or so I have decided I want to be back on top of them again.
My previous budget was £320 per month which equates to £75ish per week. I thought I was doing really well this month but if I include the food shop on 31st December I have spent £132.02, way more than I thought, so chances are it had been high for the last year. As my aim this month is to reduce the amount in the freezer I had originally hoped £100 would be enough but clearly not. I have 2 more weekly shops in the month but with clever planning I will try to keep under £200. £67.98 left to spend.
My budget includes cleaning and general household stuff, but not alcohol as this goes in "entertainment" whether at home or out. I have a child with lactose intolerance which increases milk costs and a few other things and is massively fussy. I have decided to cook for the 3 and then adapt a 4th meal for the fussy when necessary.
Sorry about the waffle!0 -
Hi all, had a couple of NSD's the last 2 days. Main food shop day tomorrow. Have a running list that I've been adding to over the week. Hopefully will keep it to around £50 and then have £10 for top up through the week till next Weds 27th when my new month starts.
Feb should be cheaper as I already have an almost full freezer so that will reduce the spends.Grocery Challenge 2024

Evening all
Well a true NSD for me today !!
Dinner was sausages, slow cooked in gravy with butterbeans, kale & carrots, with leftover mashAll eaten, no scraps !
On a roll, I've now made DH some butternut squash, chilli & red onion soup (Ok, ok, so the base ingredients came in a bag from Mr W., but for 19p who's sniffing). So, that's his lunch sorted for tomorrrow.
Making some homemade tomato & basil sauce for the freezer for those nights when we're in a rush and DD has pasta. I normally buy it, so it'll be interesting to see how it fares.
And finally, I've got some cubed pork out of the freezer for a rogan josh curry tomorrow night and chopped the veggies as well ....
Wanders off for a lie down! Not a takeout in sight ...
I've seen that the Feb GC is up and about, but I've a long way to go with this month yet before I venture in that direction!
Taking it one day at a time, is working for me at the moment, with the key being deciding the day before what we're having and getting the components out of the freezer ... yes, yes, I know it's only been 3 days in a row we've cooked, but honestly, that's a good effort from us!GC - March 2024 -0 -
Shop just arrived!
Will update signature tomorrow as I simply can't bring myself to get up and check the total! Hahaha! It sounds lazier now that's not in my head.:rotfl: Over 1/2 way to the weekend! Phew.

£8.88 spent today on cold meds for DH, bless him, as well as deodorants which were on offer. I wish I could've had another nsd but I'm hoping still to be under budget at the end of the month. I'll update my sig now.
