How Much to Cancel my BT Phone/BB Contract
Comments

So as I said earlier - she's pretending to be you.
Both of you are breaking the T&C of the agreement - best watch out if her CRB check is important to her.
As a new customer with a BT line already in place, she will not have to pay any reconnection fee nor pay for any new equipment apart from P&P. This does not have to be with BT.
Let's hope she isn't in a contract elsewhere and has cancellation fees. If she is, it might be cheaper for her to move her services to the new address.
If you read my posts above, I did say that at my previous address when we moved in there was a BT line which was disconnected and as a new customer they wanted £150 to reconnect the line !! The same thing happened when we moved here so yes again you are wrong ! BT ALWAYS try to get a reconnection fee if they can get away with it and I bet there are many on here who can confirm this.
As for her CRB, I know for a fact because I had to do this myself, you have to provide evidence of two utility contracts for the check which I provided council tax and gas & electric (dual fuel). So it won't matter that she is not using her own phone contract.
Also I am not breaking the terms of the contract, as far as they are concerned, she is my guest and using my phone. Do BT check every customer's phone to check who is using it ? I don't think so.
My whole family have used mine on various occasions. I think you are a bit mis-informed and following the rules a bit TOO closely !0 -
BT ALWAYS try to get a reconnection fee if they can get away with it and I bet there are many on here who can confirm this.
And there will be many who will confirm it doesn't happen as well. I did not have to pay a reconnection fee when returning to BT after years with NTL ( Now Virgin ).
What matters is whether or not the line has been disconnected at the exchange and/or cabinet. If it has there will be a charge, if it hasn't there won't be.
From BT;If your home has had a telephone service from BT in the recent past, and the wiring and socket is undamaged and the line still has a dial tone, it's likely you won't need to pay any connection or reconnection charges. You'll just have to pay for your chosen calling plan, the cost of any extra calls not included in the plan and for any additional services you require from BT.
Where there's no suitable BT line available in your property, no dial tone on the line, or if you have been disconnected for non-payment in the past, then you might need to pay a connection charge. If you only have a calling plan with BT, the standard connection charge is normally £130.
However, if you've signed up for a calls and broadband package, or if you have a calls, broadband and TV package, we don't charge for connection. As for her CRB, I know for a fact because I had to do this myself, you have to provide evidence of two utility contracts for the check which I provided council tax and gas & electric (dual fuel). Then I'm sure you are aware that a CRB check ( now DBS ) is not solely down to confirming identity and address. Also I am not breaking the terms of the contract, as far as they are concerned, she is my guest and using my phone.
Except she's not your guest but let's not let facts get in the way.Do BT check every customer's phone to check who is using it ? I don't think so.

Then you will have no need to call BT "Thieving b******rds !" then as it's not them who are doing the thieving.
You've been proved wrong on multiple occasions on this thread and this is another where your idea of the rules is wrong.
Please feel free to have the last word if you want.0 -

I have been proved wrong have I ? You mean you have deliberately twisted what I have said.
Your logic is completely off the wall, but don't let that get in your way when putting your own slant on what I have said.
If your logic is sound, then anyone using your phone is a thief !
She is my guest, as she is staying in my property for as long as she needs to the same as any other relative coming to stay with me. I still own the property same as you do if your sibling comes to stay.
I know what exactly is involved in a CRB check, I have had two to work for the local council !!
Just because you have a different opinion, doesn't make me a l*iar and doesn't make you a truth sayer ! You have put your "slant" on what I have said, it doesn't make what you are saying true but don't let a little thing like the facts get in your way of twisting what I have said.0 -
If your daughter takes over the payments, she does not 'take over the contract'. You remain liable for payments and will be the one who gets a default should she not pay.
Clearly by your comments you expect BT to be bound by the contract, but not you yourself. A 12m minimum term means exactly what it says and has been pretty much standard on telcoms contracts for years now. Your mobile contract will be exactly the same, though possibly even longer, up to 2 years
The ETC is up to the value left on the contract, though some suppliers will charge less, as do BT in this case.No free lunch, and no free laptop
