must.try.harder wrote: »That really sucks, I am feeling your pain as I now need new disc brakes and pads, 2 new tyres and I managed to put my car key through the washing machine. Its gonna cost about £500 to get all that sorted! I am going to put it off for a couple of months just to get this debt paid first and save enough to cover it properly.
So as it is pay day, I paid £450 off the debt today! Update in signature. So close to paying it off...I hope I can be extra frugal and get this credit card paid off once and for all this month
Ouch these things are sent to try us. Bet your key cost a fair bit. Going to now set up car maint savings fund as I always stumble with repairs for my car and it is 10 yrs old now. Really could do with a service as well soon. Keep going get there in the end:TLBM 13039 1.1.13 Now £0 Finally Debt FreeMortgage free Oct 2019:)EFund/savings £25000 10/11/220 -

Bit late to start but I'd like to join.
I'd like to backdate my debt a little as I only paid off some last week (after the 10th)

Brill glad to join! I really want to kick this overdraft to the kerb. I've managed to get a new First Direct account set up which has a better rate + £250 free overdraft so it will reduce my fees a lot and make it a bit easier.
My method for kicking it is putting all my spending cash for the week on a prepaid mastercard I have, and only spending my "pocket money" off that, therefore leaving the cash in my current account alone (if I tried to pay it off, I'd always dip back in).
It's going well so far

Sounds like a cunning plan to me. Whatever works for you. Do you get cashback for opening First Direct account as well?LBM 13039 1.1.13 Now £0 Finally Debt FreeMortgage free Oct 2019:)EFund/savings £25000 10/11/220

Yes it's £150. Straight in the pot!
I've currently got -£600 instead of -£1000 in there, woo! I get paid again Thursday (weekly pay is good in some ways, bad in others!) but essentially my outgoings are covered by my weekly pay so fingers crossed I can not overspend before Thursday and make it "official" that I've made a good dent :T
Just got caught up by SLC though so I'm down £43 a week to my student payments. I was wondering when they'd come knocking!
The £150 from First Direct will help immensely but it won't be here for a while I don't think so I'll still target myself based on what I've got now. They seem like a great bank though!
I'm so hopeful I can smash this debt into pieces
