do you have PERSONAL knowledge of this supposed "badly designed internal charging circuitry," , and can you link us all to your published report on this?

I think , if you go and read all the reports on this product , they all refer to the PLUG being dangerous , very little if no mention was given to the charging circuit in general , just the plug

I personally would treat both the charging circuity and the batteries as substandard given they have made such a glaring error as not having a fuse in the plug. You do have to ask yourself as to what other safety features were omitted.

It will be interesting to see in January both the house fire statistics and those of the fracture clinics after these things have been unwrapped and used.

agreed , however the plug issue , badly faxed picture of a UK plug to a chineeze manufacturer , please make 20,000 as per photo?

do you remember top gear , china episode , copy of a mini? , looked like they had made a copy of a faxed picture , it "looked" like a mini , but wasn't ,,

IF THE OP is adamant on using the device , then the simple replacement of the plug/lead (with a suitable fuse) "should" assist the fire brigades digestive system

I'd rather they were not called out, my wife's father was a fire officer who was killed in the line of duty while in a burning building that collapsed.

I've read that the problem can be solved by changing the plug/cable. The board itself should be fine.

I'll see if I can find a source for that.

I hadn't heard of these until i heard them talking about them this morning on the news. And i thought 'hover boards' !!! Wow they sound great, you wouldn't think they could do anything like that.
I was really disappointed when they showed a picture, and it had wheels.
Am i dumb ? Well hover boards suggest they must hover, like a hovercraft.

I agree, I complained to the BBC website that they should at the very least say "hoverboards" to indicate that it's just a name rather than an actual description, although I doubt if they'll bother to change.

I seriously doubt that you will find any authoritative source. As I and others have said the problem almost certainly goes beyond the unfused plug which is simply an obvious warning that the things have never met any safety standards test.

we can sit here all day moaning about the quality of parts used

the OP in there opening comments:

"(Please no comments about it being bad buying from China, illegal to ride in public etc.etc. I'm just wanting to know if the fuse in the plug is a major risk factor if it can be reduced alongside careful charging by buying a new plug and lead).

OP , cut the plug off , fit a quality new plug with the correct fuse fitted ,
