There might be things they can do even while waiting for stock to come in that can constitute preparing for dispatch. It doesn't necessarily mean that your item is being packaged at that moment.

Yeah, I can imagine that (for a £5 book) they will have a crack team on stand-by, labels ready printed and sitting with the correct size jiffy bag on the manager's desk, and phone calls from Jeff every hour to ensure they have the motorcycle courier ready.

It's amazing what they'll do for super-saver, these days. :rotfl:

Or, as I said, they could just be lying.
Regardless it could be clearer and can see why you have found the whole thing confusing.

Wow, there certainly aren't any flies on you!

You can see how being given two conflicting pieces of information is confusing.

    Top Man!

I tend to just note the date that is showing on the order and don't really bother with the status, it doesn't really make a difference to me what's going on in the background - just want to know when to expect my delivery.

Since I'm rarely in a hurry for what I order, and pay for next day delivery if I am, I do much the same.

However, when they take the trouble to email you contradicting information it makes them look daft.
It looks like you are going out of your way to find something to complain about.

Some people think lying is unimportant - I suppose you fall in that camp. Others have different standards.

This is another problem with their whole 'when will it come' system.

They dispatch something by RM 48 hour, and tell you it will arrive in four days. Giving a specific day.

    And, guess what?

Nine times out of ten it arrives in two.

Fine for people who know about this foible but extremely annoying for anyone who takes it at face value and arranges to be in on day four and misses the delivery on day two.

Ordered 13 Dec Dispatched 14 Dec

    Delayed

An attempt was made to deliver your parcel, but it could not be delivered because the location was closed. Delivery is rescheduled for the next business day

Latest update: Monday, 14 Dec 14:44
The carrier has scheduled delivery for the next working day, as the business is closed on Saturdays.

I would imagine the process is the same regardless of the value of your order. Pretty much everything within Amazon is automated to be as cost ad time efficient as possible.

If they have a process where they are able to get the background prep done before the item arrives you can bet they will be doing it.

Effectively you don't have a clue if they are lying or not but because it's not something that immediately appeared to make sense you got straight on the outraged bus.

Anyway I'm pretty sure that you have made up your mind and that will be that, given that you couldn't possibly be wrong about anything!

Well, if you have some idea about just what they could be doing 'in the background' with no stock, why not tell us what that might be.
Effectively you don't have a clue if they are lying or not

Except that they are giving me two pieces of information that contradict each other - that's pretty much a prima facie case that they are 'lying'.
but because it's not something that immediately appeared to make sense you got straight on the outraged bus.

Nope, not at all. There happened to be a thread where the matter was being discussed and I posted my experience.
Anyway I'm pretty sure that you have made up your mind and that will be that

Well, you haven't made even the smallest suggestion as to what might mitigate their actions. Just waffled on vaguely about some mythical process that a company who process hundreds of thousands of orders daily might do in preparation for dispatching a £5 book they don't have. :rotfl:

Perhaps you would be happier if I was a little more accurate with my complaint.

Obviously, I don't think anyone is deliberately 'lying' in the human sense of the word. Rather, the system is emitting incorrect and contradictory information. Something that happens rather a lot with the dispatch/arrival data they provide.

Anyway, it's a small matter - I buy a lot of stuff from/through Amazon because, in most respects, they are excellent. Which is another reason why it would be in their own interest to sort out this glitch.

Just need a rant really. I'm a prime member, ordered some goods Tuesday and Wednesday for next day. Unfortunately they said Friday. Okay, that's fine. I understand it's week of cyber Monday etc. Only I've now received notices that some of the parcels will be delivered today. I guess early is better than late. :/

    Xxx
Call them & complain - my wife did this & got 3 months extra Prime through in for free.

My CD is coming from Germany. Using the Amazon link to track it gives garbled rubbish. Going direct to the DP/DHL & ParcelForce Worldwide tracking page gives proper info - even down to my name. It was in Cologne this morning. Seems an expensive journey for a £5 CD ;)

Looks like it won't be arriving today. Last seen in the International Hub yesterday morning. So much for guaranteed next day delivery. Still selling it as "want it tomorrow 18th Dec".

I've ordered 4 Lego items from Amazon over the last few months - 2 came from Germany, 1 from Italy and 1 from France. Took a few days, but as two were half price, another was 25% off and the fourth was out of stock in the UK I really wasn't bothered that they took a couple of days to be delivered.

Unsurprisingly my box of schnapps is being shipped from Germany too
