The price just a half decent Mk I or Mk II shell will go for these days is incredible. It's not youngsters either, as they can't afford them.
For another example, my 28 year old VW van is worth a good deal more than it ought to be, as it's 4wd. There can't be many vehicles that have been designed as rear engined, 4wd.
Yes i had a 2 door MK 1 escort 1300 estate that had been Zeibarted from new, wouldn't have minded a crystal ball back then.0 -
Ooh modern classics magazine, I had no idea that existed. Seems right up my street.
As for the thread itself, iconic 'everymans' 90's cars that sum up the decade for me were:
Escort Cosworth
Cavalier/Astra GSi
Pug 306 GTi-6 / 106 GTi
Saxo VTS
Integra Type R0 -
My boss had one of these back in the early 90s , i remember coming back from birmingham down the M5 to exeter at in excess of 130MPH absolutley bricking it"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0

What a fantastic era for cars, have many fond memories
I had two MK2 Fiesta XR2's and then a Series 2 Escort RS Turbo in Mercury Grey
I always wanted a Sapphire Cossie, have seen some for sale recently and cant believe the prices these are going for
I have also had in the last five years a MK2 Escort 4 door and a 3 door MK1 Escort0 -
They're mostly 80's cars, not 90's!0

The one that got away (or rather I lost my nerve and bottled out of buying). I like quirky cars, but a Tatra 613-4 took that to a new level. The one concerned used to overtake me on the way to the station. The noise of a fuel injected air cooled rear engined V8 is unique. Sort of like a VW beetle on steroids in an echo chamber.
It was the third one down on this page : http://www.tatra-register.co.uk/index.htm0 -

Audi TT mark I.
Gorgeous to look at, great to drive.0 -
The Carlton was a very nice car, and much more of a 'Q car' than a whale-tailed Cosworth. Innocuous on the motorway but with similar power for its weight as in current supersaloons like M5s, XFRs, Audi RSs. Almost £50k new though, and although ultra-low mileage ones in mint condition have preserved a good chunk of that, you would have made a heck of a lot more money with 25 years growth on your £50k in an investment fund. And anyone who really got to enjoy one in the 90s is unlikely to still get their money back for it!Kernow666 wrote:My boss had one of these back in the early 90s , i remember coming back from birmingham down the M5 to exeter at in excess of 130MPH absolutley bricking it0
