Ford Capri, followed by an XR3i and then an Audi Coupe GT.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

But they looked good !
Have you ever driven a Manta?
The brakes were decent for the time.0 -

The ultimate bagernomics machine, they have to take them round the back of the trade in garage and shoot them, they refuse to break down, owners get bored long before they need money spending on them, the T4 was a right wolf in sheep's clothing beat the BMW/Aidi / Golf GTI in to a pulp machine, if you can find one for sale.
The late 90's perhaps but I don't think a car based on a Mitsubishi Carisma would come under the banner of a classic car from the 90's
Can't say I ever seen a V40 with the T4 engine, seen one or two S40's0 -
The only car that I would really like from the 90's is a turbo charged Renault.
5 GT Turbo, 21 Turbo and the 11 Turbo or 9 Turbo from a little earlier.
The 5 GT Turbo was a hilariously fast little car, no power steering, little in the way of sound deadening and quick for a 1.4.0 -
Left field idea. Citroen XM ? - last of the citroens with a proper citroen suspension ... though the even more interesting CX just makes it into the '90s0

Liked my Nissan Bluebirds years ago, but although I had an occasional shot in my dads, I never managed to get my own ZX Turbo.
Then there was the Rover 827. Liked them too.0 -
I'd consider many of the cars mentioned so far as 80s cars - they may have still (just) been on sale in the 90s but they are firmly rooted in the 80s. Peugot 205 GTi and Renault 5 GT Turbo to name but two.
I wasn't really that keen on 90s cars, most of mine at that time were from the 80s or earlier, although I did buy a new Puma that I really liked (in 2000, but I'd regard it as a 90s car).0 -
What people don't realise is that its only the lowest of the low mileage cars that have been well cared for that make the top money, or cars that have been extensively renovated, an expensive and time consuming business.
There are exceptions such as Fords and VW's where youngters mainly, part of the ''scene'', will pay stupid amounts of money for cars people couldn't give away 20 years ago.
If you run a bangernomics special on a shoestring and think because other exceptional models are making good money that yours will, you are in for a disappointment, keeping cars as regular classics in top condition is a seriously expensive business that you will only see a profit from in rare circumstances, this is an enthusiasts game.
You wouldn't believe how much its cost to keep my car in tip top condition over the years, yes its worth money and partly because it hasn't been tinkered with nor neglected unlike most of its peers during its banger years, but i'll not get back what i've put in, the car has been kept in this condition for my pleasure not for gain.0 -

Anyone who kept a two door RWD Escort in solid condition will have made a lot of money, Doesn't have to be pristine, or low mileage, just not completely rotted through. The price just a half decent Mk I or Mk II shell will go for these days is incredible. It's not youngsters either, as they can't afford them.
For another example, my 28 year old VW van is worth a good deal more than it ought to be, as it's 4wd. There can't be many vehicles that have been designed as rear engined, 4wd.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

There's quite a few early '90s cars that are gaining interest in preservation already. Second issue of Modern Classics magazine has just hit the newsagents, too.
Perhaps a more interesting question is which new-millenium cars will become accepted classics. There's four pictured on that cover, after all.0
