yodel parcel delivery

They left a parcel on my doorstep the other day. It could have easily been stolen. Don't they realise this, what if people are out for the day or away on holiday. Its crazy?

Why do they do this?

I agree it is crazy but the supply companies that use them are as far as I know getting the deliveries done for such a cheap price it can cover the cost of lost/stolen/damaged goods so IMO that is why.
    We are very lucky with both them and Hermes as the drivers for both companies that deliver to us take pride in the job and to date we have not had any problems {no that I think it could not happen in the future}

how would you know if it was stolen though, you wouldn't realise anything had been sent?

The companies we order from have tracking so I follow that. As for not knowing if anything had been sent I know what we order and roughly how long delivery should be. If an item has not arrived within a few days of expected delivery time we contact the supplier as it is down to them to sort it out.
I have read a lot of the horror stories on here re the way parcels have been "delivered" but as I say we to date have not had any problems and just hope it carries on that way.
I am sorry that others {including yourself} have bad service with the people that are paid to deliver and you have every right to vent over it but it seems to have gone on now for years and depending on the way the driver feels about the job and the increase in home deliveries I can only see it getting worse or delivery costs will sky rocket with new companies coming along that will treat deliveries the way they should be but charge a premium price for it.

We have a lockable parcel box which is fine for the smaller packages. Not all delivery people manage to lock it but most do. It was expensive though!

Why would you order something online if you're not going to be home to receive it or leave instruction as to where to safely leave it? Do you think couriers have the capacity and time to carry forward parcels for re-delivery another day, especially at this time of year when their workload has more than doubled?

They're out on the road delivering up to 12 hours a day as it is, with vans rammed full to the rafters with parcels. They have to try to deliver everything onboard the same day otherwise it just impacts on the next day's work. Or would you rather they return it to sender if you're not home, as that's what I've often done in the past during peak period.

you cant possibly know when they are going to come?

You cant stay in all day can you every day?

the correct way would be to leave a card saying they called!

There is a website dedicated to yodel called Yodel hell. It seems it is common to have problems?

At least it was on your doorstep...

I particularly like the following quote from Yodel:
We have apologised and hand delivered a bouquet of flowers to the customer.

Because they didn't want to risk sending them by Yodel. :rotfl:

Say I have 200 parcels to deliver today which completely fill my van and will take from 8am to 6pm to deliver, but 50% of those households are not home and haven't provided a safe delivery point (either neighbour or safe place).

Yes, I could stick a card through and take away your parcel to try again tomorrow (no guarantee you'll be home then either) but tomorrow I have another 200 parcels to deliver. Where do I put the parcels I couldn't deliver yesterday? And how do I find time to deliver all the ones carried forward as well as the new ones?

Or do I leave parcels behind in the depot that are due out today meaning customers who are likely to be home miss out on getting their parcel. Or do I just return to sender as customer unavailable and the sender/retailer re-issue them.

So, you see the dilemma couriers are faced with daily when customers can't be bothered to wait in or give instruction as to which neighbour or safe place they can leave it.

and there is me thinking that a couriers job was to get a parcel safely to where it is supposed to be.

Tell you what, they should just go to the bottom of the road, open the back doors and push everything out that is for that street. solves the time issue.

Don't joke about that - in Canada, Canada Post (equivalent to Royal Mail) tried to move to "community mailboxes" (one per street). Each house did have it's own little lockable box, so it wasn't just a big bucket for the whole street, but people had to go there to get their post.

They've recently put the roll-out on hold (not exactly clear why).
