TV not Working

Hello. I was watching TV lastnight and the thing just knocked off. I only bought it 16 months ago. Warranty was up after a year.
There is a flashing red light on the bottom right of the screen and reading on the internet this could be mean a few different things but would need a qualified repair man to fix it.
Whats the chances of the seller or Samsung sorting this? Or replacing the TV?

Someone told me about the Sales of Goods Act. Would it be of use mentioning this? And is there a template I can use when emailing the retailer?

Thanks

The only way you can use the sales of goods act is if you have an independent report stating that the fault was down to a manufacturing defect.

After the first 6 months the onus is on you to do so, if proven to be a manufacturing fault you will get your cost of the report back.

You could try going through Samsung but you would then be bound by the terms of their warranty and there may be a charge.

Thanks. So in other words any repairs will need to be paid for by me?

I'd expect a £500 tv to last more than 16 months

    Not necessarily.
If a report states that the fault was due to a manufacturing defect (faulty components or poor assembly) then the retailer should provide a remedy and cover the cost of the report.

This remedy could be a repair, replacement or refund (possibly a partial one) and it is the retailers choice.
Who did you buy the TV from?

I bought it from CCL online I emailed them a few hours ago and Im waiting on their reply.

Would an independent TV repair shop be able to supply a report?

Unfortunately as the item is now out of warranty we are unable to action any return for it, If your wishing to claim under the sales of goods act any item over 6 months old it is down for the customer to prove this is inherently defective and manufactured wrong this can be done by a independent engineers report.

Have you tried unplugging it from the mains for a few minutes? Have a google and see if there is a "hard reset" option for your model.
