My scales are not working
I really wanted to make some bread but don't have a recipe that uses cups etc.
I am usually fairly accurate with heaped dessert spoon measuring but doubt I could be accurate enough for bread.
Does anybody have a recipe I could try please?
oh, and its for the BM

My BM recipe is almost the same as the one above, but the difference is that I use, 1 1/8 cups of water and 2 1/2 tblspns of skimmed milk powder.MSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0

That recipe was much much nicer than my usual one!
The dough was much stickier so I worried a bit but needn't have.
Its really soft and open textured. Love it. Will stick with that one rather than my old one so thanks again0 -
I made Soft Grain Bread last night, but used 3 cups of Allinsons Soft Grain flour instead of White flour, cooked on the white bread setting. Delicious, great texture and slightly softer crust. Usually do a half and half on the soft grain and white, as the soft grain flour is expensive, but a bit of a treat.MSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0

Hi Frugal,
Now that you've found a recipe that suits and your thread has dropped down the Old Style board, I've added it to the existing one on cooking without scales as your question may help others.

okay so I have got into baking and also have the take away secret, yummy, however, I have no weighing scales etc so most of the time I just make it up..
so my question is this, how can I measure for example 4oz of flour without actually measuring, say for example 1oz is 1 table spoon or something, it is something I keep meaning to get and always forget grrr
thanks0 -
My Mum always measured by tablespoon using your example one heaped table spoon= 1oz.. if you use that measure for all the ingredients at least they will all be in proportion to one another.. but it won't always work..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
