  • I've resubmitted my reported amount for February. Should now be £870 instead of £850, as I found a spare £20 floating about in the end-of-month assessment of the budget. :D
Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.

Just done my sums and I can declare £706.76 for February (form submitted). It was going to be a very lean month, as I have now got £0 balance on the credit card having paid it off completely and started living on the money in my bank account (woo!). So I'm pleasantly surprised with the result! It's made up of £300 First Direct and £250 TSB regular savers, plus the former matured earlier this month so £78 interest, plus odd bits including VSP and Delay Repay cheques.

Also this month I opened FlexDirect and Flexclusive for the bulk of the matured First Direct regular saver. This is finely balanced, but the plan is to drip-feed across for a few months until hopeful payrise. Fingers crossed my maths works out!

Next month, although I have my regular savings earmarked, I also have my MOT and road tax - eek! Especially worried about the MOT as usual as my car is 11 years old and I don't do anything to keep her healthy apart from feeding her. So today I spent over an hour cleaning her, because in my head that would help?! Clean numberplate and mirrors was the goal, botch-job cleaned body was the result (I have no hosepipe). Sigh, the things we do when we're desperate...
  • Hi everyone!

I feel like I am back on track with a total of £2276.41 this month! S&S ISA had a bit of a recovery which helped although I am learning not to depend on it, at least in the short term for making my fortune!

Well done everyone on making a great start to saving in 2016, and thanks as always to SF for all her hard work

  • Just updated #080 with a very nice £935 for February.

Helped out no end by finally getting my £76 Nationwide cashback through and £65 from a clear out of my cupboards & wardrobes.

One up (or down)side of getting into running last year is that a good 75% of my clothes were too big for me hence a big Ebay clear-out.

    £19 interest received
    £701 savings from salary
    £39 mileage claims
    £112 cashback
    £64 selling proceeds.
  • Hello, payday today so I am declaring £776.31 for the month. A fair bit lower than the amount usually saved but it was pretty much as expected - not being paid December's overtime, a few more train journeys than usual and a higher student loan amount taken out took care of that.

I'm hoping that this month will be better, with only holiday flights for April (probably Easyjet so hopefully won't be too much) and perhaps the hotel to factor in other than the usual. Not decided where to go yet though...

Anyway, well done so far everyone!
