How does everyone else manage to save up such huge totals each month?

It's rather personal (and nosey :o) of me lol - just wondered as there are some big saves on this thread :D
There are a few who have very well paid jobs, or their own successful businesses. Others live very frugally. Don't be put off by those large sums - bigger than my annual income - it's not a contest.

I just had a mini heart attack: logged into my First Direct to find all my savings had disappeared, then realised I got my dates wrong and the regular saver has matured a day earlier than expected!

I have a meeting at Nationwide on Saturday to open a Flex Direct and a Flexclusive. They told me to bring details of my other accounts to see what else they can do for me. Poor lady is going to be in shock - I currently have 11 accounts, so 13 with these new ones and will be opening one more in a month or so! If the mood takes me, I might close the one I don't need... :rotfl:

I am happy to declare £3,500 for February. I've been googling and researching various retirement places. Does anyone have any thoughts about buying a little stone cottage in Brittany ( with about an acre of land)? Once I become mortgage free...hopefully next month (YAY!!!) this might be a new savings goal!

As always well done to everyone; keep up the good work. Also, of course, thanks to Slowlyfading for keeping everything in order and updating everything for us!
I'm trying to remember to pay my future self first!

I'm reporting £1000 for Jan, I think there's a few pence either side but I need to work it out.

Feb is going to be amazing as I basically just had all my outstanding commissions come in for last year. But I need to work it all out before declaring. Plus, it probably means I'm going to overspend slightly out of excitement ha ha x

  • Had some major expenses this month, so declaring slightly less for Feb: 550!

However, that said, I'm aiming to transfer the missing 150 for this month immediately on payday to my savings account in addition to the monthly savings goal.

Well done everyone! Seeing all these amazing numbers is really motivating

I'm trying so hard with this! It's so important that I get this cash saved!

Sold a couple of bits and bobs so far this month so got a bit more to add great!

Think I may have on average slightly more than £500pcm to save... Currently got it in 5% linked Reg saver account with tsb and 4% linked with hsbc. They only allow £250pcm...

Any suggestions as to another high interest Reg saver or way bank account with low pay in required?
  • You could try a H2B ISA with Halifax? 4%

Or an M&S regular saver - I believe it was 6%?

  • Can anyone help me? I'm very much new to saving! I recently opened a TSB 5% interest account, can I open a help to buy ISA in the same tax year?
Do I also have to pay tax on my savings? These may be really silly questions but I have no idea!
