Any recommendations let me know. I'm mostly posting the plan here to make it seem more real!

P.S. Does anyone else find it tricky to budget month-by-month when they're paid at the end of the month? I don't know why, but I think I'd find it easier to budget if I were paid on 1st!

I budget as if i was paid on 1st, i just keep my pay until then.

Thanks :o:) DS seems to have forgotten how to sleep, so it's proving a bit tricky at the moment!

  • Just paid credit card #1 in full in Jan, will pay credit card #2 in full in Feb, and then I can start saving! I have also increased my target to £10000 to challenge myself and force me to make up for a slow start.
  • Just submitted my form as both OH and I now been paid. OH got his annual bonus so the difference between our income and expenditure for January is £3250

I don't expect we will do as well every month but a good start anyway.

For people who take the start balance in Jan and the end balance as savings, what do you do if you end with less than you started with??

I was going to do it this way, however for the first 2 months I will be down due to insurance on my car and a loan repayment :p

Have submitted my total savings this month of £931.00 fell a bit short of my 1000 target due to some unexpected bills broken car and oven hoping for an even better February need to get that holiday deposit paid .
Plan for February is to walk more and become a bit more old school in my Monday saving approach must get more of a grip on the food budget !

This keeps happening to me as my S&S ISA keeps going down and down! :(

I adjust it in the following month and submit an amount less than what I actually saved that month to balance.

    Save £10,000 Jan-May 2022 THEN RETIRE!!
Final total for (half) year: -£4,000
  • Payday tomorrow so declaring for the month - a total of £1317.12 saved in January. No major outlays this month (a couple of clothing items in the sales is as extravagant as it got) so pretty much saved as expected.

I can see February working out slightly less fruitful however; I start the last eight installments of my student loan repayments via direct debit this month and have gone for a larger amount than is usually deducted via PAYE. Looking forward to getting that out of the way after 12 long years. The end is in sight!

I will have that on the month I pay for our holiday. I intend to declare nothing saved for that month and any balance I will take off the following or previous month. You might be better off just starting from March if the first two months you cannot start saving.
