Even shutting the door can't always keep them out - I used to try and shut my cat out of the bedroom at night because he was so noisy and restless, it took him a few months but eventually he worked out how to open the door by swinging on the handle

Yeah, our first cat timmy did that too! and taught the dog how to open the gate by flipping the latch up! rofl

(mind you, I think he did that in the hopes the dog would get out and 'get lost'!)

Yes, Newton sleeps on my bed, when he's in the mood. Usually on my feet or in the crook behind my knees.

  • My pets, a dog and a cat sleep with me for some time. is a cuddle each other and to me it's okay
  • We have a new rescue cat who has the run of two upper bedrooms in the night with litter and food . We open the cat flap when he goes to bed and the other two can go out if they want . It's been like this for a short while . One sometimes sleeps at the bottom of the bed and sometimes two of them do . One sometimes scratches the carpet for more food , DH doesn't seem to hear it and doesn't get up ? I like him being on the bed . Can't see them being together all night for a while as one of our cats doesn't get on with the newcomer yet . I hope they'll manage to co exist sometime.

Cats are family, mine have always slept where they want. Nothing nicer in the winter than having a bundle of warm purring cat snuggling up.

Do I let my cat sleep on my bed? Theres no "let" its their bed as far as they are concerned and I am allowed to sleep in it in it.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

more a case do they let me sleep on the bed, have on occasion been ousted to the spare room only to be joined there a couple of hours later, I have taken to locking them out of the bedroom when they wake me up at silly oclock just to get some sleep
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.

One of our cats gets shut into 'her bedroom' (actually the small spare room) at night with a meal. This is so that we know she has had a good meal at least once a day, without the other cat managing to pinch it. When we first had her it was also a way of giving the other cat some time with us as they would not share the space.

The other cat has his bed in our room but it is a rare night that he does not spend at least part of it on our bed. He usually sleeps between my feet but will come up onto my chest at some stage to have his ears tickled, then go back down to my feet when he has had enough. He's very good in the mornings and rarely asks for food until hubs gets up.

I let my cat sleep on my bed since I last commented on this post. I have had her 18 years in may and rescued her from a bad owner when she was a kitty and I even saw her give birth 2 months after taking her in (I didn't know she was expecting). She has been through many things with us including a house move and I feel awful leaving her out.
