I was on Octopus Tracker which changed daily but for the past two months only in one direction. Now on Octopus Go Faster which is fixed. But my point was a general one.Telegraph Sam

Correct, in my case 14.99 p / kwh basic with 4 hours @ 5 p plus 25 p / day. How does that compare with Avro?Telegraph Sam

Apparently you need to be an existing customer and then you have to be "invited" to move to the Go/Go Faster tariff.
Even then it`s not a plain and simple tariff to work out.

There`s a lot to be said for a fixed Avro tariff with simple pricing.
They`re the cheapest, you can switch anytime without fees, either to another tariff with them or another provider.1 -

I went for a quote and there were three tariffs offered, all dearer than Avro.
The equivalent to Avro was Octopusfixed with far higher rates than the current Avro Simple and Flow12M.
And massively higher still than my current Avro tariff.
I couldn`t just pick a Go/Go Faster tariff because it`s not available to new customers.
Even then according to my link above there are tariffs within the Go/Go Faster tariff.
All too complicated.
I noticed you didn`t mention gas tariffs.

Leave variables out of it for the sake of simplicity.
Say I'm on a fixed rate @ 13 p which has 9 months to run. If I am clever / lucky I cancel and renew mid term on the same terms but gain an extra 3 months currency @ 13 p. I am quids in assuming that there is a price increase to 14 p announced for new contracts before the end of the original fixed term. The time scales can be varied according to the accuracy of one's crystal ball. But of course in the end it might not be worth the candle. The more practical conclusion might be just not to wait until the end of one's fixed rate contract before renewing "prematurely" in a world of constant price increases. And not try to be too clever beyond that. The way costs have spiralled in recent times I’m very surprised any of the Energy firms are still offering ‘fixed’ tariffs.
If prices continue rising apace I think many of the suppliers will find survival increasingly precarious.

Octopus standard tariffs are no longer as competitive as they were and you have to do a bit of digging to get onto the "innovative" tariffs. Often it is just a case of knowing what to ask for. Horses fot courses and you can say if the differential against Avro makes it worth it.
I don't believe that there are any innovative tariffs for gas.

I was wondering if the economics are any different with "100% renewable" sources which must be different from the oil and gas markets.Telegraph Sam
