You need to ask your insurer that question.

When did you buy your current machine?

    July 2015

  • They have not done a recall !
A recall is where THEY contact owners, what they have done is let you contact them hoping most wont bother.

I don't know about other owners, but I was definitely contacted by Indesit. I received two emails in November 2015, telling me that my dryers were ones that were concerned. One dryer was bought in 2004 (which I have scrapped), the second was bought in December 2014. I had registered them both for warranty with Indesit.

I had already filled in the online contact form a week or so beforehand.
  • I have just received an e-mail (having registerd in the first way in January) with an estmated repair date of August! This is a joke surely?? They have offered a new drier for £59 but I'm not sure I trust this. Where do I stand legally on this - surely must be some compensation for not using the drier for 8 months?

Why are you planning not to use your machine?
  • I'm not happy about using a tumble drier which might catch fire for 6 months, no, and I really don't see why I should pay for a new one, even if discounted, just because indesit/hotpoint can't service them at a reasonable rate. Disgraceful service from indesit/hotpoint - they should be giving people free machines if there is that much of a backlog on repairs.

This has already been discussed several times already. Logistically giving everyone a free machine would likely take longer than simply repairing the existing ones.

If you continue to use the machine whist regularly checking on it and cleaning the filter there should be no issues.

None of us are "happy" about the situation, but there isn't anything we can do. We can throw our toys out the pram and refuse to use the machine altogether (which serves nothing but to cause more inconvenience for ourselves) or wait for a repair/accept a (reasonably priced) replacement.

If your machine is "discontinued" then it must be a good few years old - why not just accept a paid replacement and get a brand new machine?
  • A flow chart of how to get the 100% free new dryer out of them is required.

...catch fire for 6 months? ;)

But being serious, have you seen this from the link in the initial post on this thread?...
In the meantime consumers may continue to use their products, provided that appliances are not left unattended whilst operating. We also remind customers of the need for proper cleaning and maintenance, as outlined in the user manual.

Not 100% confirmed - but I assumed this was if the existing machine is less than 1 year old?
