BIN or Make an offer

More of a moan than anything, but when has it become normal to offer 50% of the asking price on BIN items? I've not set restrictions on my listings this time, as I have missed out previously literally by £1 (when I checked the offers history) and Im still trying to sell those items. But honestly, that's 4 items this week I've recieved offers on, £10 for £20 and £7 for £16 ( actually it's more than half price). I know we all try to save as much as we can, especially with Christmas just around the corner, but I would never have the cheek to make such a low offer to anybody.
Anyway, rant over :-)

You'll always get those that will chance their arm in the hope of getting their offer accepted by a desperate seller.

I'm like you, would never try to insult a seller with a ridiculous offer, but I do do a bit of research to try to find the % of reduction a seller might have been happy to sell items at in the past & tend to go a little bit higher with my offer.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

As annoying and frustrating as it is, I don't actually know which one I enjoy more - hitting 'decline' button (i don't even bother countering at instances like that) or leaving them hanging. It has been mentioned on bhere before that it may 'speed' somebody else up to purchase an item if there's an 'offer' is awaiting to be reviewed for somebody else.mNot sure whether it works or not but Im surely triling it out.
  • Myself, If I get an insulting offer I not only leave them hanging. I block them as well. That way they have to wait a couple of days to find they can't have it anyways..

I like your tactic! I might even follow suit :) But then there was one instance where buyer kept making me an offer of £5 of a £15 item, I countered them twice, but then after third attempt I simply declined them and they went on and paid full asking price! Left me great feedback too!

They make a silly offer and some may accept it, within an hour of the buyer getting the bargain item it will probably be relisted and sold for the its full value.

  • If you ask for offers then that's what you'll get.

So what if people offer really low amounts? Don't take it so personally. It's not like their offers are stopping anyone else from buying.

I always have a rule that any offers of BIN wont even get a look in unless they are offering over the asking price. I usually reply with Good luck on that bid.

Sometimes it's a condition of a promotion to have a Best offer on BIN price, so not much choice in that, it's a must. I don't take it personally, it just really really annoying, if I wanted an item sold at a tenner, I would've put it up at £12 not £20, plus I always check what similar items have sold for, so I'm not asking any silly money.

I've got my eye on something on eBay at the moment that has a massively inflated Buy It Now, so I'm considering putting in an offer of 60% near the end time. Cheeky offers are only 'insulting' if the item isn't over priced to begin with, surely?

And how do you find that working for you?
