You are right, according to everything I have read on this forum, Trading Standards do not act on individual reports, rather they build a case and then will act if they have a lot of similar reports. I also recall reading that you have to go through Citizens Advice Bureau to get to TS.How do you suggest he speaks to trading standards? I didn't think they dealt with joe public direct. It's good going in hard but the dealer doesn't sound like the sort to play by the rules.0 -
Any dealer that writes 'Sold as seen' on the invoice is one to be avoided at all costs.
Or any trader that doesn't service it themselves before selling it for more. "It just needs a good service" means "there's something wrong I don't want to pay to fix".
Remember he'll be able to get it serviced much cheaper than the buyer could.0 -

I doubt they'd be liable to pay for a tow service for a 300 mile round trip (they need to collect it too). 20 miles, maybe, but not 300.
OP - you've bought a lemon. It'll much likely be cheaper and less hassle to get it fixed locally, so you're not wasting 2 days + fuel + whatever else returning it. At least then you should have a decent car.
If the dealer can point you to a local supplier to do it cheaply then check and see if they've got any reviews first.0 -
Do you really think an Arthur Daley character and type of trader is going to take any notice of those threats?:rotfl:Tell him you will claim for a hire car until he sorts it out. Tell him the garage are charging £10 a day storage for which he will be liable. Tell him you would prefer to say on social media how helpful he was.0 -

Although its not right to be shafted this way I think you are going to be dealing with this yourself with out the inclusion of the seller. Good luck getting it sorted and I hope its something simple like a blocked pipe.0 -
Its probably not worth the hassle of getting the car back that distance and hoping that he'll do something with it. I would post bad feedback on his facebook page etc and hope to get a refund towards the repair for removing it.0
