  • Some really good news to report today - I had a letter from the Land Registry yesterday, confirming that they'd received a copy of my decree absolute and that the home rights order had now been removed from the title. :D So I can now sell, remortgage, whatever without having to get my ex's permission.

Plus OH has his interview in less than 2 weeks. I'm flying up with him and we're going to look at houses while we're there. It seems ridiculous that for what the estate agent says this 1-bed flat will sell for, we can buy a detached 5 bedroom house in a lovely village by the sea - and not one that needs thousands spending on it this time either! :rotfl: (Can you tell I have my eye on somewhere already??)

Great News Caz:j....it all sounds lovely, especially now that the sun is out:A
  • Things are looking up :D I've nearly finished the current transcription job - they sent me an extra file, so once I've done this final 8 minutes, I can invoice for £250. Even better, the lady I've been transcribing for gave my details to one of her colleagues at a different university and she sent me another 3 hours' worth of files yesterday afternoon, so that's another £120.

eBay is ticking over nicely again, sales are back up to around £120 a day and I'm keeping my stock ordering on a tighter rein this year. The changes that are coming in at the end of the month are going to benefit me as long as I can hang onto my Gold powerseller status. If I can improve to Platinum (2,500 sold items per month - it's do-able, but I'll need to expand my range) then I'll be even better off. Titanium (5,000 items) would be fantastic, but I think I might need to employ help!

I have a new credit card for ordering from overseas suppliers as well - the Post Office doesn't charge for overseas transactions and I got £20 for applying through Quidco :D Nice to see that self-employment hasn't wrecked my credit rating. I totted up this morning and over 4 cards and an overdraft I have just under £13k available to me if I need it. Though I'm wondering how many of them will start to go down the Egg route and close accounts down that are paid off in full each month...?

At the end of this month I should be able to start stuffing the offset jar again - it's been a lean couple of months, but I think I'm through it now (touch wood...).

    Well done Caz:j:j:j
  • Good to see things picking up, caz - I love reading your thread. I don't think I'm brave enough to walk away from my monthly salary for a self-employed living but the professional ebay trader stuff really impresses me!

Beads and jewellery-making findings - small, light, easy to post, don't take up much room :D

  • Ladies and gentlemen, I apologise, but I think I'm officially out of the MFi3 challenge as my mortgage is about to increase by £23,500 (ish).

Today we had our offer accepted on this:

    2265408800_56b904b0a1.jpg

It's on the north coast of Scotland and is a 3-bed traditional croft house with a 1-bed annexe (the bit on the left). There's an acre of garden plus another 4 acres of croft (which we can't get the tenancy of for another 3 and a half years, but we have first refusal) going all the way down to the high water mark on the beach you can see in the background.

It truly is the house of our dreams and we've been very, very lucky to a) find it and b) have our offer accepted so fast - OH viewed it this morning, put an offer in at lunchtime and heard we'd got it about 4.30pm!

As long as this flat sells for what the estate agent is confident it will sell for, our total mortgage will be just over £50k. I don't think I can pay that off in what remains of the challenge, but I'll be doing my best to still meet my original target. We have had to cancel the dream holiday to Mauritius, but I can't think of a better reason for doing so!

I've been tidying all night, as the agent is coming to take photos in the morning and the flat should be up for sale by Tuesday at the latest. The house is empty (the seller has a new job in the south and has already moved), so ideally we're looking for a first-time buyer or investor to avoid a chain.

Last year OH took me to Venice for Valentine's Day and I joked that he'd never manage to top that - I think he just did :D

Now excuse me while I go :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j!

  • Wow - it looks gorgeous! Congratulations :)

So this is regardless of what comes of your OH's job-seeking plans then? You're off anyway?

Hope it all goes really smoothly for you :)
Ali - still pretty much a newbie, need to brush up my MS habits!
