  • I've got the blues today  I'm working on a transcription job and after taking over half an hour to transcribe 4 minutes of tape today (very poor quality recording, very echo-y room, lots of kids talking in a high-speed monotone simultaneously), burst into tears, chucked my headphones on the floor and then emailed the sender of said file saying I wasn't going to charge him for it, but neither was I going to transcribe it. Fortunately the rest of the batch is better and I'm half way through the last one now. I've just had a payment through from them too, which cheered me up, until I realised that they'd paid me the £32 from mid-December, but NOT the £56 from the end of November, so I'll have to chase that up.

  • It's swings and blooming roundabouts at the moment.

Good news - I've finished the transcription work, so that's another £60.

Good news - there may be some more transcription work imminent.

Bad news - I had to pay my tax bill yesterday.

Good news - my offset savings account is back up to £5000.

Bad news - my solicitor sent me a bill for £800 this morning.

On the plus side, the letter that came with it said I'd done one of the most complete Form E's she'd seen in the four years she'd been working for that firm and if I can get the copy she sent me sworn at court and returned ASAP then she can let my ex's solicitor know that we're ready and we can maybe get all the negotiation done prior to the first court hearing in March, thus saving me a LOT of money. Total divorce bill now at just over £3,000 :eek::eek:

Ironically, my mortgage is now back down to almost exactly what it was when I split up with my ex!

Glad some things are looking up. It's hard to keep upbeat sometimes when its pouring with rain and blowing a gale, never mind having to pay a tax bill!

I hope tomorrow is even better for you.

    That's a real achievement!:money: Well done:T:T:T:T
  • The Powers That Be have got it in for me at the moment! Not content with the tax bill and the solicitor's bill, I now need a new circuit board for my boiler as its existing one packed up last night (fortunately it went in between finishing running the bath and turning the shower attachment on to rinse my hair!). Ted the Gasman was astonished; he fitted that combi boiler for me a few years ago, it's the only model he recommends and in all the years he's been fitting and servicing them, he's never seen a circuit board die before.

So I'm without heating or hot water until the new board arrives tomorrow (the joys of having the area's best heating engineer living just round the corner is that he can often squeeze me in at the beginning or end of his day, even if he's fully booked :D) and now have to find the money for that as well.

Add to that the fact that I've mis-timed ordering stock on the business credit card and have to find £2,690 by 13th February in a slow sales period (I think I'll just make it, but I can forget paying myself this month) and I'm a bit up against it this month. I'm just relieved that it's the two grace months for council tax - I was going to overpay them onto the mortgage, but I think I'm going to have to hang onto them so I don't go overdrawn.

Universe, can I have a break now please?!

I've had a good turf-out of stuff over the weekend and have a huge pile to put into TurboLister all ready for the cheap listing day on Thursday, so hopefully that'll ease the cash flow up a little bit!

  • Good news - I have four and a half hours of transcription to do ASAP, which is going to help the cashflow no end.

Bad news - the replacement circuit board was faulty and by the time it had arrived, the cut-off for ordering another one for tomorrow had been and gone, so we're now without heating or hot water until Thursday.

This is me at the moment: :snow_laug

If its any consolation, we are that temp too.

My rambly house is SO badly insulated that we have retreated to one corner of it which we can keep warm, without single handedly causing global warming. I have a huge mortgage but actually live in a 2 up, 2 down cottage! Hopefully we will soon get planning permission to do a ton of work and then MAYBE, we can use, dare I even think it.... the whole house!:rotfl:

Till then, its multiple layers, 3 dogs and a duvet.

  • Still no heating or hot water here and won't be until at least Monday :( On the bright side, the gas bill is going to be down for the month :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: (I don't recommend this form of MSE'ing, but there's got to be a bright side somewhere!)

And I sold a photograph through a stock photography site! Colour me amazed! OK, my royalty is the grand total of $0.99, but that's $0.99 I didn't have before!

Ebay has picked up again, thank the Gods. I'm still not sure if I can afford to pay myself this month, but I've hit the target I needed to hit this week to be on track to pay off the whole stock bill on the credit card. :T
