Cashbacks - who to trust?

I'm about to take out a cashback deal for my OH. So I've spent the last few days reading opinions about who is and who isn't reliable - I'm now utterly confused - partly because much of what I read relates to months or even years ago.
Which company can I trust?
I'd make sure we send back the documentation on time and recorded - so assuming I follow the t & c's to the letter which companies are worth considering.
Sorry if this question has been answered hundreds of times before, but I'd really appreciate some uptodate - reliable opinion.

I wish the comments and experiences with CoolNewMobile were in the past. Read the thread it is real and happening now, to me and others.
All I will say to anyone considering a cash back deal is when it comes to the time to send off your claim and documents required, have the actual event (putting the documents in the envelope) witnessed by an independent person, who will be prepared to say so in court. Sounds OTT, just read the thread.

With respect that thread only tells part of the story. Read the CoolNewMobile thread

I can only speak from my own experience about 02 at the link.
No final bill , chased up twice missed cashback.. letters to customer care. have to write to cancel a mth in advance etc etc..
Others may have had no problems but I persoanlly think they are dodgy..
Cheers hope this helps0 -
My personal opinion is that you are better off going with one of the larger companies --- i.e. either carphonewarehouse (or e2save) or phones4u (or mobiles2yourdoor).
You can find nightmare stories about any of these companies but I guess a lot of them are due to the fact that people send in their claims late or the wrong bill. You do have to be on the ball with these deals.
Mobileshop used to be good but aren't now.

Sorry I don't agree with that. I'm currently struggling, like many, to get my cash back claims paid up by Mobileshop.com. I have adhered, like lots of others, to all the T&Cs. Yet they frequently delay payments for over 100 days and then only pay up once you threaten or indeed take legal action.
There is no question by Mobileshop that I am entitled to the payment, they simply will not pay without me fighting them every step of the way.
Unfortunately there is no easy answer to taking a cash back deal. A company can be brilliant and then suddenly deteriorate in a matter of months. Some people claim to have no problems at all and others have to take legal action to reclaim the money owed.
I'm sorry I can't give any better advice, but the honest truth is taking any cash back deal is a gamble.0 -
I agree entirely with spunky. You can stick to the terms and conditons of a cashback deal but still be denied your money. All these companies have purposefully deceived on more than one occasion and their business plans depends on it. If you have to get a cashback deal then using one of the larger companies is probably the best way to go as they are worried about maintaining their reputation and will not want to p*ss off too many of their customers. Then again that does explain mobileshop's recent dispicable behaviour which suggests they do not seem to worry too much about how they are perceived.0

Can anyone explain to me in simple terms the difference between a normal cashback deal and a price match?0

A cash back deal works by you paying up front your total monthly bill and any additional costs you incur. You pay your network operator (Vodafone, O2, Three etc.) directly.
You will then have a separate contract with the company who offered you the cash back deal. They will have specific Terms & Conditions which you must adhere to 100% in order to claim your cash back. You will normally do this in a number of stages e.g. 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th month. You do this by sending them a copy (or the original in some cases) of your airtime bill. They will give you a certain period of time to send them the bill, the usual seems to be 30 days. You then need to wait a specified amount of time for them to either credit your bank account directly or send you a cheque.
Price Match works by a company offering to meet or beat its competitors deals. In my experience I've never been able to get companies to price match the quality deals I find, so I'm not sure how useful they really are.
I hope that helps.0
